Wonder how much that "minimal restocking fee" is...

Saw this on Pulse24. So, I can rent a DVD, hold onto it for a couple of years, and pay a restocking fee? Must be something I'm missing...

no,
after a week, they automatically sell you the dvd. (maybe charge it on your cc)
if you decide to return, they charge you a restocking fee.

Hmm, should have read the article more closely.

If out-of-print movies are available at Blockbuster, can't people just swipe them and then "buy" it that way, blocking others from viewing it? :(

I think I would take late fees over "buying" the movie. Of course I could return it and pay the "restocking" fee, but isn't that really just a late fee?

Even if everyone goes for the restocking fee option it still gives Blockbuster a lot of "free" money to play with. Notice how they are giving 30 days for the restock option? That makes it a lot easier for people either take a longer time to return the movie(giving Blockbuster more time with the money) or make them intend to return and forget(giving Blockbuster the money).

I wonder what Rogers Video will do to compete with this.

Here in the US, they also dropped their rental fee by a quarter in addition to the no late fees. So basically, a 3 day rental is now a week rental with no fees.
Pretty sweet. I hope Rogers does the same since they are closer to me :).
