Weekly updates from the A&P flyers, hotel deals etc...
I just got my air miles card and am waiting for my Airmiles Amex so I can double dip at Shell pumps, the LCBO and A&P. What else is common and good?

I don't think there's currently enough Air Miles deals to warrant an entire forum and I'm not sure that a large majority of our users would be that interested... any opinions?

Maybe a more general "Points" section? That way all the special points cards could be included. I personally wouldn't read it too much though, but it wouldn't hurt to try it...

I agree with the not big enough for a forum thing, but are there Subforums? :) I need a trip and I'm not willing to wait 5 years+!!!!

Another way to double dip ad add up a few points is to open a BMO Air Miles Bank Account. This way when you use your debit card at an Air Miles Sponsor, LCBO, Shell etc., you get an extra air mile for using the card. You also get an extra Air Mile anytime a Pre Authorized Payment or Electronic deposit goes through your account.

I think if we have enough people talking about points here, then we might get a new forum!

My Amex airmiles should be in this week. Here's a good deal:

A&P flyer this week was buy 9 P&G products, get 100 bonus airmiles (if only I had my amex to double dip it!). It applied to certain products. For example I got 3 packs of lever 2000, my gf got some baby lotion and Dove soap, Dove deodorant. And we got some dish soap and huggies bounce sheets. $40 total for 100 airmiles of stuff we needed anyway!

Can anyone top this?

CAN WE GET A POINTS FORUM PLEEEEEEEEESE!! If I don't get a trip within a year I will consider this airmiles thing a failure! Who knows Derek, maybe I'll bring ya on my trip! You'll love da reefa in Jamaica man!

Unless the J cabin is oversold, $5000 will guarantee you a seat, whereas the reward seats are capacity controlled. Only 10% of the seats for a particular route are allocated for free seats. Also, pax paying $5000 are likely travelling on business and will get reimbursed by the employer, whereas you normally wouldn't pay that much if you were to pay on your own. Same applies to points, you probably wouldn't pay 300000 miles for a J ticket, where if it was only 25K, you'd consider it.

From time to time AC offers "seat sales" based on reduced AP miles to Super Elite, Elite and Prestige members. They do this during the off-season in order to encourage these members to use up their miles when there's lots of empty seats. I've flown to Europe for as little as 40,000 miles compared to the regular 60,000 miles.

No guarantees, but the chances are greater if you do. I've booked YYZ-HNL flights for Feb almost 9 months in advance since I know they're most likely oversold during winter break. Also since that is a leisure route, it'll most likely be filled with other AP vacationers looking to burn their points. Go to www.aeroplan.com to check the availability of the flights you want. If you login, it even suggests other dates if the ones you want are sold out.

Depends on where you are going. The most expensive seems to be YYZ-SYD for $10550CAD.

so its actually wiser to use the miles for short hales in north america instead of long one say asia?? since short hauls only cost 15k miles and would cost $500 in real dollars, so with 75k i could get about 5 short hauls=$2500 dollars, but one ticket to asia is 75k miles=$1500 dollars??

i guess iam better off using the miles for short flights??

I would value most short hauls at only $300-350. You still have to pay taxes on each flight, so it could even be worth a little less. Your estimate of $1500 for a trans-pac sounds about right.

The best value comes from using the miles for int'l J class. A typical J class fare YYZ-SYD comes out to about $10,000. You'll use 100K for this 20 hour flight. J class for North America isn't worth it since most of the bus class seats on A319, A320, and domestic 767's only amount to 6-7" more legroom. Int'l configured bus class have a 55"-60" seat pitch.

on expedia.ca it says $6000 for j-class to china from ottawa... and for short hauls say ottawa-california its around $500 dollar

You'll find different prices for different cities. I used SYD as an example, since it's the most expensive and the longest flight where sitting in Y would be torture.

Ottawa-California is not a short haul.

I'm surprised this idea hasn't been implemented yet. With all the Safeway/A&P/PharmaPlus/ e.t.c. airmiles deals being posted in the hot deals section, I'm sure there would be enough material to warrant a seperate section on RFD.

I was looking for more posts on airmiles deals, and came accross this thread. Like I said before with all the threads in hot deals about optimum/aeroplan/airmiles/hbc/ points that we could have a subsection dedicated to rewards points sort of like on frugalshopper.
