OMG I cant believe what my money grabbin dentist did to me.. I went for 2 fillings( bottom molars) and when she was done I came out with my upper left molars done. WTF, she just drilled two perfectly good teeth without any cavities. I grilled her the **** about it and I could tell she knew what **** up she had done. I cant belive this, even her receptionist confirmed that it was supposed to be the bottom teeth and all the dentist could tell me was that it had cavity anyway so I did that instead. Should I ask for the xray and get a second opinion??????

I can see why you're piss about it, what your dentist should do is, do your bottom teeth as well and not charge you for it. Second opinion X-ray is good if you want to pursue suing your dentist

haha oh man........thats friggin horrible......sue her for malpractice!!
Sometimes I think dentists are a little fake:
I had some "lip bumper" device a couple years back...it was about 6 months between checkups, and i NVR wore it when i went to bed (like I was supposed to)......i wear it on the way to the appointment. He tells me what a fantastic job this "device" that cost me thousands of dollars is doing and he said he can tell that I've been wearing it often. :|
Sometimes I think they give us all these devices for the heck of it....do they work off comission or something??

You have a lot of cavities... clearly a dentist doesn't work on good teeth if it's not needed. Your dentist attacked the most needy teeth first (sounds like the bottom set is just about gone) that could be saved cheaply... that's the usual trick to enable more teeth to be fixed and hence more time/money to be spent on your mouth. I usually let qualified people do their job and if there was some missunderstanding about what teeth took priority, then I would ask for an explaination... and not tell the dentist how to do the job. I'm sure the dentist was taken back... an Xray costs, and a second opinion will see the new work... know what's up and will not rat on a fellow club member. Just think of this as the rocky road to new pearlies and switch dentists.

Huh?? I never got anything like that. All I got were needles in my mouth to numb everything. After that the dentist just kept yanking...pulled out 3 in one sitting one time. I was only 10 years old...

they wouldnt give me a second serving...said i was 'high enough' already :-0

No offence, but when you guys ask 'Is your dentist hot?'
Why does that matter?
Do you stop thinking with your 'top' head, and star thinking with your 'below the waist' head?
Ridiculous.
I'd be pissed too if my dentist did that.
My dentist poked and proded looking for cavities, and really wasn't paying attention to what they were doing... they YANKED the inside of my top/back molar tooth out. I spit out and yelled 'WHat the **** are you doing? You just yanked my tooth out!' To which they retorted "No, I didn't it's just food!!!"
So I spit out the 'material', and it turned out to be my tooth. The dentist had hollowed that tooth out!
She stated that the tooth was weak and that was going to happen ANYWAY.
I needed a root canal and a cap, and they charged me for it (discounted???).
I never went back there again.
I'd like to sue, but I do not have the time, effort and money required to do so.
My New dentist said that I have very nice teeth, and asked how come I had a root canal done in the back? And exclaimed 'Ohhhhh dentist error' when I told him.
Teeth are irreplacable, and if you are not happy with service, change your dentist.

A dentist wouldn't drill a tooth out without a cavity. Uh, how could she? It's not that easy to get a licence dude. Sounds to me like your mouth is so full of cavities that she didn't know where to start. Ever heard of brushing?
None the less, if you file a lawsuit, you'll probably win. Then you can maybe afford a toothbrush.

well if you just read my first post you wouldnt type such stupid things. SHE STATED THAT I HAVE 3 CAVITIES TOTAL AND SHE SCHEDULED TO GET 2 BOTTOM filled. THE XRAY SHE DID WAS NOT EVEN 2 MONTHS OLD. HER RECEPTIONIST SCHEDULED FOR bottom , her(dentist) scheduled for the same ****.

Lets not turn this thread there...
I once went to the university for some dental work, where you get students to work on you with the instructors. They were joking around that they were going to carve their initials on my fillings!
I asked my regular dentist about this, and he said that it would be possible, but highly unprofessional. Guess they really were joking.

Ugh, not again. See my previous posts on WHY you should stick to a dentist you trust and NOT a student hygenist because you're cheap like me and want to save 10% on the stupid stinkin student network. ALWAYS ASK if the dentist themselves are doing the cleaning.
If anyone else here had their teeth/gums ruined at "Altima" in Kingston Centre while studying at Queen's University, please let me know and perhaps we can work together to file a lawsuit or something.

cavities can jump from one tooth to another, thye like making tunnels, they even like jumping up to the top tooth also.. so if one tooth has a cavity, and doesn't get treated within a 6 months to a year, then the cavity will spread just not that one teeth, the 3-4 teeth around it.. I'd seen it happen.. and it ain't fun!

Now thats she's drilled holes and filled them, you have a lifetime of refilling those holes ahead of you. Fillings only last ~10-15 years before you need to re-fill them again. You'd best be getting a lawyer.

Dude.. maybe she was looking at the X-rays upside down!... and thought your lower jaw was your upper jaw and vice versa?...
Don't feel bad, my dentist was pullin out my wisdom tooth one time and all I heard was "uh oh"... ****... he broke my tooth as he was pulling it out! I saw the nurse just cringe... knew something was up so I closed my eyes enjoyed the ride. Ended up having to cut into my jaw to dig and get the broken piece! Painful as I only had freezing... I HATE THE DENTIST!..
Oh here's another story... my aunt had the wrong 5 teeth extracted cuz she was under local anesthesia... when she woke up she was like WTF where's all my good teeth!

Everyone's got a horror story to tell about the dentist. :cheesygri Ever watch that episode of Mr. Bean when he goes to the dentist?
I'm sure there are a few people who shouldn't be in the dental profession, but there are those people in all walks of life. Sometimes though when a patient doesn't understand everything about what's going on, that's when misconceptions and mistrust arise.
I don't know what happened with that lady dentist doing some fillings in an area that's wasn't mentioned before, but the dentist should definitely have told the patient what she was going to do beforehand. Patients though can be forgetful as to what they have been told so one shouldn't pass judgement too quickly.
With wisdom teeth, sometimes the dentist does have to remove them in pieces. I had one that was lying sideways, and boy that was fun to have taken out! Sometimes the roots can break too since a few have some curves to them. I think it's all part of the procedure. I'd be worried about a dentist though who said "uh oh" or "whoops." But hey, it happens. Sometimes words can slip out at the worst of times.
With root canals, I know a few people who had them done even though the teeth weren't hurting. Sometimes the teeth can be abscessed without being sensitive. About fillings only lasting 10-15 years, I have some silver fillings in my mouth that are more than 25 years old so that's not a hard and fast rule of thumb.
I don't think cavities can "jump" from tooth to tooth although I hear that they are caused by bacteria and the acids they produce. I think it's more related to poor brushing and flossing that people get cavities in more than one tooth.

The exact thing happened to me. I went in when I was 12 to get a filling and the dentist didn't clean it properly. So I got the filling and the tooth continued to rot beneath the filling.
Eventually it hit the root and I needed a root canal.
I doubt it was caused by the silver fillings. The dentist didn't clean out the cavity properly.
So I got a root canal, and then 10 years later, the tooth cracks and I needed a crown.
That one tooth alone costs as much as a good used car.
Now I have the same problem, the tooth is discoloured.

im so glad i have nice teeth! 25 years old and no fillings or cavities! :cheesygri the only major work i've had done is getting all my wisdom teeth pulled because they were growing in sideways and pushing against my other teeth.
BRUSH YOUR TEETH and avoid all this headache! actually i NEVER brushed my teeth when i was a kid and still didnt get any cavities.......go figure, i must have impermeable teeth or something :cheesygri

It *WAS* the fillings!!! My tooth DID NOT HAVE A CAVITY!!! The stupid dentist told my mom I needed root canal so that he could get more money!!! I had a cankersore in my mouth, that's all it was! And that was his reason for needing the root canal!!! I was 10 years old at the time! What could I have done????

Genetics also have alot to do with tooth decay and your tooths resistance to decay.
I know people who are not friends with tooth paste and no cavaties annd i know some who try their best brushing and eating well and they have tonnes of fillings.
Somone here mentioned Queen West hospital and i give them 2 thumbs up anyone who wants to change dentists should check them out.

When I was younger... I thought my teeth were bad... I read an article about how you could go to a dentist (and with his permission) and ask for a complete X-RAY top&bottom and then take those X-rays and price shop... (early days before RFDs) Well I did this... and the dentist said I had 22 cavities.. estimate was $3500+ and at the time he fixed the wrong tooth (I was in pain), so I ask for my X-ray set and he resfused... said report him if I din't like it! I suffered with pain for 2-3 years before it rotted completely out of my head.
Twenty years later I was in pain again, went to Queen St. West medical clinic and the dentist there fixed me up... $75 and said I had four small cavities that need touch ups... he fixed all of them for under $200 over the last year.
hummm...... 22 cavities + 20 years = 4 cavities this is a tale of believe it or not?
Moral of the story: The Dentist Queen West medical on Bathurst St. at Queen.
