What is the best DVD-Rs to buy for long term storage like 5 years or more. Please nothing crazy like $50 platinum plated dvd-rs or somethjing.

It depends, if you want the VERY best media for longevity, but take good care of your media, then Taiyo Yuden 4x DVD±Rs. Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD±Rs will do, but aren't quite as good. If you tend to abuse your media, go for a hard coated disc. TDK, Optodisc, and Verbatim offer this kind of media.

DD, what about DVD-RAM discs? (Supposing you have a dvd-ram drive)

Someone mentioned to me that how you store your media is just as imortant to long term survival as which media you use. ;)

What is hard coated disc mean? do you have a picture? or stores in GTA that sell it?thanks
