Free Community Supper, Film Screening, and Discussion with Special Guests - GTA 1/28

From Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/events/515620258470300/

Yorkwoods Public School, 25 Yorkwoods Gate, just East of Jane Street, 4 bl N of Sheppard, 2 bl S of Finch

Join the Yorkwoods community, Producer Noemi Weis, and DOC Toronto to see "Teaching the Life of Music" and join the discussion -- El Sistema has changed the lives of 300,000 children in Venezuela -- how do we bring the power of music for social change to children in Toronto?
Bonus - Teacher's Guide Launch!
Guests: David Visentin of Sistema-Toronto; Bernice Carnegie of the Future Aces Foundation; Stephnie Payne, School Trustee; and Wilma Cayonne-Cromwell, TDSB Music.
The Sistema program has changed the lives of 400,000 students in Venezuela who didn't have the money for lessons or instruments, as well as students in Scotland and New Brunswick. Despite Toronto's reputation as an arts hub, however, community music is rare -- yet 3 out of 4 students in Toronto's one Sistema class say they feel more hope, better ability to concentrate, and are happier now that they are playing music together every day after school.
How can this grow? Come out and talk about it!
