Recommendations for home theatre setup

Ok so we just moved into a new place and are doing some reno work. While this is happening i would like to upgrade my current home theatre setup to a newer setup. The new space for the home theatre is less than ideal to say the least. It has a fireplace and an open back end. The right side of the room is also riddled with windows which complicates things further.

My budget is about $800-$1000 for the receiver + speakers. The main issue i am having is where/how to mount speakers. My current setup is a 6.1 jbl set (model #:JBL SCS136SI) with a yamaha htr-5650 (http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio-vi ... mode=model). I would not mind reusing speakers but as i said earlier i dont really know where to mount the rear speakers. The front, centre, and right can all be mounted along the front of the room, but the rears are the real issue. There is no rear wall to the room because it backs into the dinette/kitchen. I was thinking that the only real way to mount them would be to use some sort of speaker stands.

This is what i came up with so far:

These speakers and reuse my old sub

JBL Loft

I was thinking of using the tower speakers as the rears and mount the other speakers on the wall as fronts (if thats possible)
and these three receivers:

Yamaha rx-v573 b

or

pioneer vsx 1122-k or vsx-822-k

If there is something better then im open to suggestions.

You can mount the rear speakers on the side walls towards the back of the room (or speakers stands). I would do this over using tower speakers as rears. In terms of buying new speakers, those JBL Loft series are on the lower end and probably would not be much of an upgrade compared to the speakers you already own. I would probably keep your current speakers and upgrade the receiver for a little bit of future proofing and save your money to buy a better set of speakers down the road.

I am using tower speakers as my rears however I am using much larger tower speakers for fronts. The only reason why I am using towers for rears is because the are the same model line as the fronts and they just happen to be tall enough to be pointing at the listener.

Have you thought about looking on Kijji or http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/. I have purchased some of my home theater audio used from these two and have saved allot of money IMO and gotten much better equipment IMO. I would stay away from the speakers with foam surrounds as they are prone to "dry rot" as they age. IMO the technology for speakers doesn't evolve like TV technology does. My Rotel amp must be at least 15 years old and my Marantz pre amp is over 10 and the only thing I don't like about it is it doesn't do DTS which in now making a comeback with people making "MKV" files and encoding the audio in it for some reason. It is not uncommon for people to be running audio equipment that is 10, 20, even 30 years old and it still be considered high end (just look at people running tube amps)

ok so i have decided to keep my current speakers for the time being. I actually have no idea what "good" speakers are. I am pretty much a complete noob about home audio. The only thing i know is how to hook this stuff up. I am leaning towards purchasing these stands off of ebay and just using the speakers as a 5.1 setup to make my life easier.

As for the receiver im open to suggestions even from the US

You can buy speaker stands locally from electronicsforless.ca

If you want to learn about audio, why not join some audio forum and read up? AVSforum is a really good forum. canuckaudiomart.com is a good Canadian forum with good classifieds section.
