Hot 97's morning show in NY, made a parody song of "we are the world" - The entire song they were trying to make fun of the victims of the tsunami.

Earlier today hot97 had a link to the song on their site, it has since been removed.

Anyone at that station who had anything to do with this should be fired. If you've heard the song, you would agree. Especially considering it was a NY station doing this. They should know better after 9/11.

If you're curious the track is below.

They might lose sponsership but that is about it. This song is sorta racist and sexist though. Making a parody on things aren't something you can sue on, I believe. Micheal Jackson would own everyone if that happened...

Yeah, the song is dumb...whatever...it helps re-enforce my belief that most Americans are ignorant about world events. :|

****ing Americans.

They want the whole world to help 9/11 and sympathize with them, then when tsunami happens, they fart in the face of poor people with no money and who lose all their assets.

Go around bombing Iraq for oil, then want Canada to contribute billions of dollars to the nuclear missile shield.

Holy blanket statement... IT wouldn't surprise me if there are a small bunch of Canadians who are just as insensitive. Are we all ****ing Canadians then? Rip those two radio people all you want. They deserve to be fired at least, IMO....

Kinda hard to differentiate between a few people behind this parody and the millions that live in NY. You should be specific with your comments.

It just goes to show how racism exists in all forms to this day.

Personally, don't think the song was very funny. Listening to it, I wasn't offended, but I could DEFINITELY see how others, especially those who were directly affected by the tragedy would be.

IMAGINE if someone in Indonesia wrote a song about 9/11 and the towers coming down. I'm pretty sure they'd be tasting laser-guided missiles. Just goes to show, Americans are pretty classless.

guys, I know this can be a really sensitive subject, but watch your words. Obviously, everyone has their opinions.

HOWEVER. Opinions that you do not share on RFD are the kinds that contain attacks on other members or their relations. Most especially, your posts should not include racist remarks or derogatory terms.

The seed posts which started this mess have been deleted, as well as follow up. If you feel the need to discuss this topic futher, do so with respect for everyone.

Just thought everyone would like to know that hot 97 issued an apology on their website www.hot97.com:

OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON AIRING OF TSUNAMI PARODY SONG
HOT97 regrets the airing of material that made light of a serious and tragic event. We apologize to our listeners and anyone who was offended.

Both HOT97's program director and Miss Jones issued on-air apologies on Monday stating that the material was offensive and should not have been aired.

HOT97 takes pride in its community involvement and in the last few weeks has joined with broadcasters nationwide to raise money for victims of the Tsunami. Our relief effort will result in a substantial cash donation.

Did they fire the *entire* morning staff? Just wondering b/c I listened to an extended clip and one of the dj's expressed her objection to the song and how she felt it was very offensive. She ended up getting into an argument with the other two dj's. I hope she wasn't fired.

Good catch for the whole clip. They suspended the entire crew. My guess is "pending punishment" kind of thing. In that case, probably not everyone will be fired, if that. It doesn't say they'll be displined further. It just says they are suspended. Maybe just to cool it off and they'll be back on air soon. Who knows

Suspension isn't quite enough. Proper punishment would involve moving the crew to a small isolated island and have several C-130's & helicopters drop a couple thousand tonnes of water on them....

The comedian who made the comment about shooting asians, Todd Lynn, gives a phone interview:

"We made an egregious mistake. Miss Jones didn't have anything to do with it...and should be absolved. It was totally disasteful and we overstepped our boundaries. We didn't even know about the song beforehand, our producer wrote it. But it wasn't a calculated attempt to get ratings...it was just thoughtless joke.

I'm not a racist. I'm black, 6 feet, 245lbs, so if anyone knows about racism it's me. The "shoot all asians" comment was taken out of context...a caller called in and I made a crack saying "They act like I'mma shoot all asians" but my mic got clipped and the only part you hear is "shoot all asians." When you're the second banana your mic isn't as loud as the main person's and on top of that, there were four people arguing at the same time. And stuff gets edited. It isn't about us being racist. Info just happens to be asian, and the argument between her and Jones wasn't even about the tsunami, it was built up from previous crap.

Like I said, the producer wrote it, and we used bad judgment. I'm just a comedian. It wasn't a diabolical plot or nothin' like that. It's just that you get so desensitized by tragedy and when you do you don't think straight.

Complaints didn't start rolling in until we got suspended, really. No one dislikes Info because she's asian, and arguing has been part of the show's dynamic for years. That's why people tune into us. It's just crazy because all of this energy could be put to better use. If we get fired (which will probably happen), people will think they've gotten two "racists" off the air and it will have all been for nothing because we aren't racists. Their perception is all ****ed, and the reason why everyone's so up in arms is because this is the first time somebody black has been caught being "racist.""

LMAO, that was the worst excuse I've ever heard...he's defending his actions?

There's no excuse for it, he knows what he did and laying blame on other people is low. How can someone possible sing such blatantly racist comments...what goes through their mind when they joke about helpless kids?

On a side note, noone seems to care much about Iraqi war victims... I mean... if my house was destroyed by a natural disaster then I would be very sad, but I don't think I'd be as enraged as if, say, invaders or foreign occupation forces bombed my house to oblivion.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious that both his apology and excuse are a load of crap. His excuse about the mic was pathetic, but the part I found most apalling was his use of his own ethnicity as a means of absolving himself from any responsibility.

Stuff like this doesn't make me angry as much as it makes me sad and wonder how such attitudes are cultivated in a society that more than ever preaches tolerance and compassion.
