A agent from direct energy came by and offered a fixed 5 year rate of 30.9 cents/m^3. Does anyone have any experience with this company? I've also done some research and found three additional companies offering a 5 year fixed term. Canadian Riterate Canada 28.9 cents, ontario energy savings corp 32.5 cents and superior energy management at 29.9 cents. I'm thinking about canceling the order with direct energy since there would be an additional $60+ savings/year on 3000 m^3 of gas if i buy from CRC. But I'd like to know if anyone has any stories on service with these companies such as reliablity, customer service and etc?

These companies are all resellers. All the Natural Gas comes from Enbridge. After the government deregulated it, Consumers Gas has to sell wholesale to anyone that bought volume. So this is how it is all possible.

By far, Direct Enegy is the largest.

But ask yourself, when was the last time you had to call them about support? Your water heater is probably the only thing you rent and that call goes to Enbridge. You probably own your furnace.

Direct Energy is the spinoff from Enbridge. I've signed with them since they offered me a 5 year declining price guarantee. It was 29.4 when I signed, and then 1cent off per year. Not much... but better than a hole in the head! :)

Energyshop.com (http://www.energyshop.com/) is probably the best place to go FOR ALL the different energy retailers.

I originally had a contract with Direct Energy. I have a fix mixed feeling for them.
It all started when natural gas was first de-regulated and Direct Energy was sending out waves and waves of door-to-door sales people to get contracts. So we first signed a contract for a fixed rate of 17.40 cents. Then maybe not a year later, another sales person came to our house, one of the family member did not know we already have a contract with Direct Energy signed another one for 29.50 cents. So one month, my dad was just shocked as to the sudden and huge increase in our natural gas bill.
After calling and calling Direct Energy, they finally realized it was their mistake and they had double-contracted us. So they turned us over to customer complaint department where a nice, and helpful lady helped us to get back on our old contract, and even refund the difference of the gas bills we have already paid. The process took sometime, but eventually it was done and we got the refund.
The 17.40cents contract recently expired and we have decided to just go with the market rate for a while.
So in one way, I'm mad at Direct Energy for screwing up our gas contract and creating all this confusion. But at the same time, I'm happy that the matter was eventually resolved and we did get to take advantage of 17.40 cents for a whole year while the market price of natural gas was skyrocketing to over 30 cents.
