Rumour: New Radeon cards in September (HD 9970 and HD 9950)

We've been hearing quite a few rumours that AMD's top of the line card will come in Sept... looks to be true. Here's a link with more info:

Best to hold off getting Crossfire 7970 cards and waiting for this instead.

8xxx is just rebranded 7xxx cards for OEM machines AFAIK... There's discrete models as well as IGP but they're all just rebrands. 9xxx (assuming that's what it's called) is going to be a new architecture.

Yummy. Time to wait for AMD to slash prices + give us free games, like those 7970 never settle bundles!!

Do you guys think the 9970 can match a GTX780 in performance?

I'd be surprised if it doesn't match it at the very least. It wouldn't be wise to put out a card that can't keep pace with the competition.

What I'm waiting for however is a further price drop on the 79xx series as it's already a great value and performs on par with Nvidia cards all the way up to the GTX 770. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if the 7970 breaks the $300 price point, it'll be the best price/performance card ever in my books.
