where to certify your used car

Where is the honest/best place to get your used car certified, and what kinda things do they check for? How much are the rates? Your experiences..

70-80 in ontario, check for operation of safety gear, lights, etc canadian tire or any other shop should be able to do it

Based on feedback on this forum and personal experience crappy tire is not the most preferred place to do any auto works.

Also it would help if you can disclose your location.

Guess it depends on the tech doing the work. CT has always been good for inspecitions, its not hard for them, can't really screw them up and if you talk to the tech then they will let you know what might need replacing in the near future - even if it isn't part of the safety certificate check.

Now for other more involved work, I would stay with a local shop, ask some of your neighbours who they use, if a bunch of people around you use the same shop then its probably pretty decent.

When a private saleman says the car is certified, will he provide papers indicating what was inspected, what's wrong with the car etc?

This normally just means that they will provide a "safety certificate" as required by the Ministry of Transportation when transferring ownership. The safety inspection includes brakes, steering, rust through, lights and other safety related things.

I saw some posting that the mechanic tells you to replace lots of stuff and won't let you go unless you fix at his shop...

what's your experience about getting safety cert. how much did you pay at the end? any recommendation for the honest ones?

Note that a safety certification is by no means a guarantee or sign that the car is in good condition! It only covers the basics.

Just cuz you fail safety doesnt mean the car isnt safe lol. the GOVERMENT thinks ur car isnt safe! jk around my colt passed with flying colours :lol: :lol: *sure it did*
