View Full Version : Would you scam a scammer? UPDATE! MONEY ORDER PICS!

DennyD
Feb 19th, 2005, 04:38 PM
I posted a laptop for sale on some newsgroups and within 2 hours I had 4 offers from Nigeria to buy it. (sniff sniff - scam perhaps?)

Anyway, I found that two of them are the same person using different names but the same email address. (guess he forgot!) He wants to buy more from "my store" and thats when the red-alert scam bells went off. I said that if the deal goes well and there are no problems I'd sell him some more.

a.) do you think this is a scam?
and
b) if the money order clears, would you scam a scammer?

Or does that make me as bad as him? Ugh. Sometimes I hate moral issues. :|

What would ya do?

UPDATE
He wants to buy more from me. I said I've got access to up to 20 more and if this deal goes well then I will send him more laptops. Do you think that it will be a legit money order... since he wants more laptops?

He also says he sent $1800 (2x $900) money orders, which is $600 more than the agreed price. Said to keep it to put towards the other laptops...

UPDATE 2
Got the money orders today. Super fake and printed on a cheap bubblejet printer.

a.) do you think this is a scam?

Yes. Would you go across the ocean to buy a Laptop. If he agrees to buy at asking price then this would be too good to be true.

b) if the money order clears, would you scam a scammer?

If this is a scam they would send in money order that eventually will be bounced.

If I were you I would just ignore those responses.

Don't try to deposit the Money order or the Certified Check you get in your bank account. It will bounce off and then your bank account will be closed, all your funds frozen and police will be investigating it.At the end you may end up paying 100 some bucks to the bank for the troubles

scamming a scammer would not be scamming a scammer because that scammer is using money he scammed from someone else. anyone who used their own real money to buy something off you is not a scammer and therefore your the scammer if you scam that 'scammer'. but scammers use money they scam and then when it leads to you paypal or cc or bank will take the money the scammer scammed and gave to you and they will think your a part of the scammers. ya follow?

well, i've scammed scammers before. They money orders you get won't be legit, or they will be at one point. I've deposited some before, you get em off some web page, and they mail them to you or some crap.. Online checks, anyways they don't clear, and then your bank asks you funny questions. I did also collect credit card numbers from them, and report them back to the correspoing company. And you can usually get 10 - 15 numbers out of these people before they realize your ****ing them.

Nigera, Romania are the ones I've heard of. Don't bother. What you don't have going for you against them are time, and idiocy. They'll beat you by experience eventually. Chances of you scamming them are pretty low. Maybe good for a laugh in the first couple of exchanges, but that's where you should stop bothering

What would ya do?

Aside from moral issues, there's the fact that these are some pretty unsavoury people. Granted, they're in Nigeria, but getting yourself involved by way of some vigilante justice scheme is just going to end up in headaches.

I'd say just leave it alone. Why waste your time?

Fraud Over $5,000.00 - 32 Division

Male suspect, 39

Charge(s): February 7, 2005 – Fraud Over $5,000.00.

Arrested and investigated by Members of the Fraud Squad.

During the period from January 1, 2003 to February 6, 2005, a 39 year old male suspect and associates contacted a 79 year old male victim on line, on the phone and over the fax machine claiming they were representatives of Global Link Securities based out of Lagos, Nigeria and offered him $20,000,000.00 in U.S. funds as an inheritance. The suspect also stated that the victim would have to front a quantity of cash over the next two years to various associates. A total of $28,000 U.S. was forwarded to the suspect and his associates. On February 6, 2005, the victim and a second 49 year old male victim met with the suspect, in the company of a female suspect (still outstanding). The victims were shown two suitcases full of blackened money and also sold a product to supposedly clean the money. The victims turned over another $4,500.00 to the suspects. When the victims returned to their premises and attempted to clean the money they realized that it could not be cleaned. They again contacted the suspects who agreed to supply them with further cleaning solutions for another $2,500.00. Police were notified and investigation revealed that Global Link Securities was a fictitious company. As a result of further investigation, the suspect was arrested on January 7, 2005. Charged accordingly. No recovery has been made.

I would not hesistate if I had a chance to scam a scammer. Definitely do it!!

i was scammed once by Jeremy Oliver from Texas, for like 350 bux, I had all his info and eventually I got my $$$ back after swearing at her mom on the phone for 10 times. The whole experience makes me SICk, and I think if I had a chance to scam that sob, I would do it.

I don't understand - if he sends you a money order how can it be a scam? If you have the cash - isn't he/she just paying for what they bought. I am not saying its not a scam - but if you receive money how can it be?

I would.

The TTC is a prime example.

If I had enough money I would get a manufacturer in a Third World Country to mass produce Tokens and then sell them cheap to every body that buys them!!!!

Too bad. I don't have the money. It could happen if I win a HUGE LOTTERY!!!!

I got the money orders yesterday.

They are the most fake and unrealistic scan and print money orders I've ever seen. There is a strip that is supposed to be a hologram (like on the $50 bill) and it is a solid grey color... all the security features are not there at all.

The kicker is that after he printed it (on a not very good printer) he used dull sissors to cut it out and the cut lines are very irregular. I've seen USPS money orders before and this is definately not legit.

He mailed USPS money orders from Nigeria? Does USPS have offices over there? Eh. At least I took his time up so he has that he has less time to scam other people.

Pics later on today.

Here in the first pic you can see that the stripe going up and down is plainly visible. It should be a "hologram" just like on our $20 and $50 bills. Also notice that it goes above the top of the money order itself. That is another story all together... a legit money order does not have the poorly cut white border around it.
http://www.dwfitt.com/mo1.jpg

In this 2nd pic you can see the strip better, and in the white oval you are supposed to be able to see a face when you hold it to the light. Ya can't see a bloody thing other than a white oval. It looks like there is "something" in the circle in the pic but it's not a face.

whats funny is i have some guy from "Nigeria" 3 different email address its obvious its the same guy because he types the exact same weird way each email.

He always keeps trying to buy stuff from me, gives me an address and tells me i can use his DHL account to ship to him. But when i try to ask questions or find out who he is i lose contact..

Wonder if this is the same guy? This guy has tried this 3 different times with me and i traced routed his ip to his ISP and called the ISP and they verified him as a customer but couldn't release anything of course.

Seriously Denny,

Send something to him. IMO, Fake MO=Fake laptop. Take a picture of your laptop and stick it on a box containing a couple of catalogues from Staples, Grand and Toy etc (enough weight to feel like a laptop). Also make sure you bookmark the pages of the laptop section in each catalogue by folding the corners or use post it notes. I would love to imagine him tracking his package for the next 2 weeks while he awaits delivery. I'd be willing to chip in on the shipping costs to see this happen. I'm pretty sure others here at RFD would too.

tell him the MO was not proved at the postal office and they almost arrested you for using fake MO.

and then tell him FCK OFF and if he's really serious, you'll only consider Western Union, and you'll only ship when you have the $$$ in hand.

However, on a side note: you can trick him to pay a portion of it first (since 100 bux deposit) so you can ship him a pile of puke (or dog crap). That will work really nicely as you don't loose any money shipping crap.

I told him that I had enough hassles trying to cash them in Canada and said if you can't send something I can use, I'll have to cancel the deal. Replied rather quickly saying he'll send a certified check out on Monday (the 4th).

But now he's sending a MO for $4000 to buy three laptops. I'm only selling one for $1200usd (he never haggled) I said I could sell more if the first one goes well so I think he's now forking over real money to get loads of laptops..

Eh. Ya never know. I wanna nail this scammin' ahole..
