This kinda happed to me at <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=24 target=_blank>Canadian Tire</a> once. I had saved up $100 in CT money and I was buying a bunch of stuff. While the poor cashier was counting a stack of money 2 inches high, the guy behind me started telling me about his "buisiness"... buying grocery store points and stuff. He said its better to get a bit of money then have all these points you don't use. I told him that its pretty obvious that I save and use stuff like that. He told me I should go to his site and refer all my friends and stuff. This guy wasn't anywhere as rude as your guy. I was being pretty clear that I wasn't interested but kept up anyway. Anoying, but not rude.

"business opportunity"
If they start using words like Quickstar, Amway, run for the hills.
Those guys don't know the true meaning of the word NO (or FOAD).

Strange people talk to me all the time in public. It's very odd, but I've grown accustomed to it. Before, I was like WTF why are you talking to me? But now, it's like, okay fine, whatever, I can't escape, let's talk, I give up.

I guess I just have an "approachable" look to me? LOL if I know. I'm actually pretty anti-social when it comes to strangers. I haven't run into any Jeffrey Dalmer-type business consulting recruiters yet, but yeah I can imagine it happening.

For some reason people think I know what the heck is going on where I'm currently at or perhaps I work there. In Walmart, this lady comes up to me and goes... do you work here? And I go... um... no... actually I don't! Maybe the fact that I'm not wearing a blue vest and I don't have a "Welcome to Walmart" name tag on might tip them off? Nope. I've had this happen at <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=24 target=_blank>Canadian Tire</a>, <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=128 target=_blank>Radio Shack</a>, and more places that I can remember.

You wouldn't believe how many times it's occured. No, I'm not stocking shelves. No, I do NOT know where the washrooms are. No, I DO NOT WORK FOR SEARS! LEAVE ME ALOOOOOONNNNNEEEEE!!!! :cheesygri Well, okay, maybe I don't say LEAVE ME ALOOOONNNNNEEEEE!!!!, but yes I'm thinking it. Sometimes I just go along with it, and pretend that yes, I DO work there. Um, yeah, the washrooms are just down the isle there, turn a left, and go straight. And what? Oh yes, I would highly recommend this product you are asking me about even though I don't have a clue and have never used it before. Sigh, I just can't win.

Next time someone is acting all weird on you, just start talking jibberish and weird them back. Say things like "Is that a conglomerated company? Yeah, I heard though that stock wise it's not high energy so I really would have to Ninja around that. Really, you should see what's on Tuesday. I wouldn't mind taking 5 business cards if they are purple, but I see that my movie is back ordered so I guess my jacket is too tight." Then smile and start following THEM around a bit sniffing them. Start licking the back of your hand in a suggestive manner, and hopefully by then they'll either get the hint, or they might be aroused in which case run like HELL! :cheesygri

Grab them by the neck collar and pull them right up to your face before saying that. Then release, with a slight shove, hopefully there's a convenient wall behind them.

Met a lady in chat room, and out for a date with her, but she just start talking her job, how much she made now, how easy the work is, all I have to do is pay for $300 for the membership.........WTF? I pay you to work? If can invite more ppl to join, I can get bonus from them, the more I get, the more bonus % it increase.Pyramid scam, no doubt about it.
Don't mind to chat with strangers, that's one the way we meet new friends, but you got to know what are they up to, same as you want to meet new freinds or something else, most of the time talk with them just we both want to kill some time, oh yes, I have plenty of time.

Bottom of the barrel salespeople. Very annoying as they don't respect your wish to be left alone. But they're desperate too.

If they really bother you and won't give up after you repeately tell them to leave you alone, then just take their business card and report them to the police.

I seriously doubt the cops will charge them (and, with what?). But a visit from the local LEO will, perhaps, pursuade them not to be so aggressive next time.

Easiest way to get rid of individuals like this is to complain to the employees or management of the store. Individuals are not supposed to be soliciting on store property and especially not bothering and harassing customers. In all likelihood he would be promptly asked to leave.

Sending the business card to the police along with a description would not be a bad idea as 99% of people who operate this way are not involved in reputable or rewarding lines of business. If they get enough complaints about the guy they will investigate.

Legitimate businesses definitely do not operate this way.

"Hey, You look like an intelligent individual"

Thats the line they always use on me. I always skrew around with them. They tell me how much money i can make, yet my shoes are often worth more than their entire outfit. I remember this one time, this guy gives me his CD, and hes like this is my only one so we'll meet up and you can tell me what you think about it. I took it home smashed it, and when he called me back i told him it broke. They are quite annoying, and i don't think they realize that they are often working for free.. Aw well..

I felt embarrassed when one time I was telling a friend of mine about my long distance savings {win-tel .25 cents per call, any length, any time, in Canada or USA :cheesygri } and yes, I sounded a bit like a commercial, I suppose... so when I printed up the webpage for her, she asked if I was 'getting anything' from referring her. ARGH!!! I felt like a fool, but said no, it was just a really good deal.

I once had a MaryKay lady walk up to me in a food court and ask me if she could introduce me to her line of cosmetics. I smiled, and said 'Well, why don't I introduce you to my line of Cosmetics? I manage the Cosmetics Studio right here in this mall.' She scurried away like a little rat; she had no business soliciting people at a place of business [where business owners pay rent, and business tax, and she doesn't.]

BBV should have been made aware that someone was trying to solicit on their property!!! They aren't allowed to do that!

some people must have an approachable look. i don't get approached for "business opportunities" but i do get asked for directions or some kind of help. it's weird, lots of people in the area and pass by the person asking for something and then they ask me and not the others. go figure.

I've had about a dozen Amway guys pitch me this way. Weirdest was in a gym locker room, I thought the guy was gay and hitting on me
They are so scared to say the name "Amway" when you ask them wtf the business is.
I always ask them if its Amway and then they start to stumble and stutter and say wel.. um..er ..its kinda like...
Then I give them a big pfffffffffffft and walk off. hahaha

If they say it's not Amway, then just say that you are only interested in Amway and anything else is crap. Then they will admit to it, then hit them with the pfffffffft, and walk off. :)

by chance did he mention primamerica?

To be honest if someone said that to me I would be like "Yes Im very intrested can I have your card, do you mind though I have a criminal record, for stocking and killing, but since I'm not old enough to go to jail THEY CAN'T STOP ME MEUWHASHAHA" then take his card and stay there till he goes to his car then follow him ! ....

What.. is.. amway?

it is a variation on a pyramid scheme

you sell crap out of catalogues, etc.

you get invited to a sales meeting, it is really creepy, almost like a cult.

i felt like throwing his promotional dvd in his face.

I don't look very approachable and have been told that even from a distance the look on my face says "move, get out of may way", BUT on occasion I get such a jerk. If you look them straight in the eye with zero smile and say "Are you suggesting that I look poor and need the extra income?" Of course no one would want to suggest that, so while he is backpedalling interrupt him with "because I don't appreciate that and it pisses me off!" When he says "well no I..." cut him off again with "ARE YOU TRYING TO PISS ME OFF???" He'll say no. Then say "well then have a nice day" and turn away. A clear, slightly louder, stern voice with a little raised eyebrow will scare the sh*t out of them. Point at him and take a step closer with the "are you trying to piss me off" line. He won't be sure if you're a psycho, karate expert, packing a gun or you just killed a family of three for taking too long to pick out ice cream flavours at Baskin Robbins! Usually with me, they leave after this. Be threatening without saying anything threatening.

I had the unfortunate chance to go to WFG and Primerica.

WFG really pissed me off.

WFG: so what do you do?
me: I'm a financial accountant assitant @ (some big company)
WFG: wow so you have your degree or diploma?
me: nope.
WFG: you must know some contacts.
me: nope.
WFG: so how do you like your job.
me: I guess it's alright.
WFG: You don't sound like you do.
me: well I just started 2 months ago.

I was really pissed because strangers shouldn't ask you these personal questions, and the fact they were trying to recruit my GF. I don't really care if it was me because I know it's a scam, my GF is more naive.

Recruitment blows. Why can't people work hard and get real jobs.

Happened to me once at the airport.I was waiting for someone to come off a flight, and up saunters this young middle eastern guy and starts up a convo. Same shite...."expanding business", "growth potential", "10 million dollar company". $200,000 a year he said he made, but by the looks of his shoes and Goodwill Haute Couture, I doubted it. I told him I had to check the flight board to see an update of the plane I was waiting for, I turned my head for all of 10 seconds, turned back, and he was gone. Disappeared in the crowd, almost like a movie script. I had just turned away for a few seconds and POOF!!! Into thin air. Was he ever really there, or was it just my immagination. By the smell left in the area of B.O. and Halal meat....I'm pretty sure it was not my immagination.

can you tell me how halal meat smells different from regular meat, or kosher meat as a matter of fact. And B.O. maybe it was the other people there, or you just caught a whiff of your own.

You guys have to watch Garden State. There's this one scene where a guy in the Home Hardware is pitching his pyramid scheme to the main character. He's so weird looking that its like you can see his eyes reading the sales pitch as if it were right in front of him. LOL.

There are tons of nuts in the world. All we need is a lifesize squirrel now.

this thread = justification for concealed carry

seriously, the best way to deal with wackos is to go wacko yourself.

best is if you're brown. and have a turban handy. put it on, get this wild-eyed expression on your face and pull an xacto knife out. start screaming jibberish, wave the knife around, and hope he *****s his pants and takes off.

hehehehe

have had this happen to me a few times!
i find it is best to play around with them or become overly aggressive to scare them away.

one time, this guy wouldnt leave me alone bombarding me with similar business proposals, so i decided to pretend i was interested, albeit very annoying at the same time. I began to ask questions and promptly asked him to repeat the answer at least 3 times. The fourth time i would repeat what he just said, and ask him if i was correct in my understanding of his response. The fifth time i asked him to write it down for me in case i forgot the answer. He started to get really annoyed and asked if i was serious in my interest. So i said, "Am i serious in my interest???" He got so mad he walked away without even giving me his business card!!!

Another time, i wasnt in the mood to deal with some other bozo, so i acted quick to get rid of him. This one i wouldnt suggest bc it could be pretty dangerous. I immediately asked for his business card, then proceeded to rip it up and threw it in his face and yelled "Get the FCUK out of my face and leave me alone" Worked for me bc the dude was so surprised i did this, and he became a little intimidated so he just walked away!

This happened to me when I worked in retail.
The guy came back to see why I didn't call a week later.
They make you feel important, like you were the "chosen one", but it's just a big scam.
