With UPS, what do I need to tell the shipper to do, because I know that some of the shippers that know what they are doing get me the products with no charges, while for others I get nailed, in both cases with UPS.

Does anyone know, thanks.

yeah, I agree UPS are bad news, but this is the only shipping method they offer.

Use expidated service. You'll pay more up front, but you'll bypass the $40 handling charges.

UPS will rape you with brokerage charges, USPS/Canada Post only charges a $5 fee. Either way you have to pay the customs if it's over $20...but a lot of times packages slip through without getting charged.

.Get courier waybill and invoice for product
.go to the Sufferance Warehouse, Point of Entry, or Bonded warehouse closest to you and pay all taxes and duty
.Take receipt from warehouse or point of entry to courier and get item

haha what are you summarizing the article? have you even had a shipment from the US? lol you're a joke...

you can do all that work, but you still have to pay taxes, you're better off paying $5 and get it delivered to you

In that case, buy from someone else, the price difference won't be worth the extra hassle.

Duties, taxes, and brokerage are three separate and distinct charges.

hey i got royal fuked my first time too ... Got something worth $180 and had to pay $60 brokrage fee, my advice when you call to clear it say you will clear it yourself that you have a personal broker, they will ship it out to you and not charge you, after that just say **** it dont write it on your taxes who will know. Unless its something expensive.

OH and yes Tell them your a company or have the person or company sending it to you say you are a company, thats what the person sending me did I didn't relise it at the time but they were trying to help me out.

yes, tell him to e-mail you an invoice (paypal offers a packing slip which would work nicely) and to e-mail you the UPS tracking number. Call UPS telling them that you will clear it yourself, have them fax you a copy of the waybill. go to customs and pay duties and tax. go to UPS office and present them with receipt from customs, have package released for delivery.

What's the approx value of the item?

It's easiest to tell him to ship it with USPS...if it's a small seller, they will probably do it for you, if not you can offer him a bit more for 'handling'...large companies however, may only ship with UPS exclusively

i always use USPS whenever possible .... UPS rapes you for all you're worth. another method is to ship it to a friend that lives in the US and visits home (ie. toronto) often.

Ok, so where exactly is Customs? CanadaPost branch?

Also what do I do if the person does not want to fax the reciept lol. He was really being an ass and not wanting to send via USPS.

The value of the item is $36, but although this seems small, I bought some bubble mailers from the US a week or two ago, for $20, and the UPS charged me $30 at my door.

I was under the impression you were buying something expensive like a $1k laptop...

Anyways the limits for no taxes is $20 retail, $60 gift...not advocating you should ask him to mark it as a gift, but a lot of people do, or ask him to mark the value lower ;)

what if its a 300$ used car bumper?

if they ship via usps will it still deliver to my house? or do i need to go pick it up?

i really dont mind going to pick it up, i just dont want to pay the insane brokerage fees from UPS.

also, a lot of people recommend against using canada post /usps because they loose a lot of stuff, so is it worth the extra 30 bucks to get the package registered with tracking no. etc?

thanks!

Since you're in Vancouver, it's very easy to clear a UPS package yourself. The UPS administrative office is very close to the airport and Canada Customs is a block away from there.

If you want to know how, PM me. I'm too tired to type it all out right now.

Of course they will ship to your house, with the $5 fee and no brokerage fees...I've never had a problem with Canada Post...just make sure you get insurance.
