Just get a tea ball(or whatever they're called). It's a porous metal ball you put the leaves in and snap it shut.

I second that. That's probably the most convenient way to do that.

If she got the leaves from India, then you got to make tea the Indian way. You boil the water in a pan on the stove, and throw the tea, once the water has boiled and turn of the heat immediately. You let it seep for 3-4 minutes.
Then you use these:

Kitchen gadgets store will most likely have it. Gizmos comes to mind. There are some other stores out there but their names escaped me right now

Tea originated in India/China. They way they drink it (without tea bags) is the proper way.
Try drinking tea the Indian way. It's better than with bags because the bags filters out flavour.

These are the ones i used when i made red rose unbagged tea. I used to get them in a cuboid foil pacakage. I call the kitchen gadget a strainer but not sure what others call it. Might be able to get hem at any chinese store like New Asia or Tnt and if not definitely in china town on spadina.
They do not filter as finely as the teabags or a coffee filter even but the fact that the dregs stay at the bottom till the last drop means you can stop in time before ingesting the finer particles that got through the strainer.
I however loved the dregs and enjoyed the way it scratched my throat a little and made me cough just once or twice.
When the tea is made this way it is richer and tastes better possibly because more of the loose tea leaves are used in making your tea than are prepackaged in the tea bags or possibly he fact that the ground leaves are free to move around in the water and at differnt levels in the vessel exposing more surface area of the tea particles leading to a more concentrated tea.

Another place is Say Tea, in Bloor West Village. http://www.saytea.com/ If they don't know, they *should* know, since they sell many exotic teas in loose powder form.
P.S. In the future, it would be best to indicate what *city* you live in on the thread title...thanks!

The easiest way is the persian way using Samaavar

http://sadaf.com/store/media/90-7501.jpg
First the bottom part is filled with water, heated till the water is boiling.
The tea leaves are left in that cup-with-lead thing on top ( called ghouri) and the hot water can be poured into that cup using the , meh I suck at exaplaining it just read more here ;)

oh btw I have to also mention I find it very odd that people here don't drink their tea raw (with no milk).
