The Police: Roxanne
Surprisingly, "Roxanne" is not an 80's tune. This song was originally released in 1978 by A&M records, and it failed to chart. In 1979, the song was re-released and hit #12 on U.K. charts. Outlandos d'Amour, the album "Roxanne" appeared on, was released in 1978. That said, The Police were the biggest band in the world in the early 80s and probably deserve a mention in this thread. Later, the torch was symbolically passed onto U2 (when the Police handed over their instruments to U2) at Live Aid (and U2 later became and now remains the biggest band to this day).
