Zotac GTX 650 DVI-D question. Help pls!

Hi,

I have a Zotac Geforce GTX 650 Synergy edition video card.

http://www.zotac.com/products/graphics- ... ition.html

It has the following connectors:

DVI 1
HDMI 1
VGA 1

I looks like a DVD-D port.

Can I use a DVI-D to VGA adapter like this:

or must I use a DVI-D to VGA signal converter like this:

Can anyone help me? Much appreciated.

You can't use the passive adapter. That is for DVI-I or DVI-A. Your signal converter has the wrong male/female connectors, but that's the right idea.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think that passive dvi-d to VGA adapter will work. If it DVI-I to VGA then yes because those extra 4 pins around the flat nub carry analog signal but this adapter wouldn't convert the digital signal to analog, you'd need some sort of active adapter.

I read that certain video cards with DVI-D may support Analog conversion without those four extra pins. I'm so confused. I may have to wait until Zotac opens at noon and ask them.

You're right, the gender is incorrect. Pasted the wrong image for both. Thanks.

It makes sense that the DVI port doesn't have the 4 pins for DVI-I. The card already has a VGA port, so I guess they think it's enough.
Also, if it didn't come with the passive adapter, that would be another hint that it can't do it. I've never seen a gfx card that had DVI-I not come with the passive adapter.

According to Zotac, a passive DVI-D adapter to VGA should work. For some reason I doubt it, but I'll try it. It's not expensive, a few bucks, but it may take a couple of weeks to get it.

Good luck. The adapter likely won't even be able to be plugged in. In other words, it's physically incompatible as well.

UPDATE: Clearly Zotac knows nothing about their products. They (after 1 online chat and two different tech support calls) assured me that this Dual Link DVI-D port could output both Analog and Digital. In short, after buying the adapter they recommended, it can't.
