Decent Solid State Drive

Hi all,

I am looking to upgrade the hard drive in my Mid 2009 Macbook Pro to a Solid State Drive. Would anyone have any recommendations? I would ideally want a decent one and for as cheap as possible. Need at least 120GB.

Any help is appreciated!

I've got five. All Samsung 840's Pro. Not as cheap as SanDisk but I just love the speed (RAID anyone?)

Thanks for the replies everyone! I would want to avoid cheaper companies like Sandisk and Kingston. My brother has the Samsung 840 Series as well and he is happy with it. Anyone know if OCZ is good? Can't find any cheap Samsung's at the moment ahaha.

From what I know, OCZ has had more RMAs filed than any other SSD manufacturer.

Also, the company was just purchased by Toshiba, so returning a defective product may be even more difficult than before.

Is it difficult to return a product to Toshiba? I was thinking of purchasing a Toshiba SSD. That's what kind of harddrive I have in my laptop now.

Since your computer is relatively old by now, the only thing that will be holding back the performance of the SSD would be its SATA II interface.

Any SSD would be fine for you but I would suggest getting one that's known to be reliable.

Not sure if Toshiba is reliable but supposedly used in many ultrabooks that come standard with an SSD and sounds like good price cost / GB based on replies in the thread.

Avoid OCZ. I updated the firmware on my agility 3 because the firmware update said they made some improvements. It did seem to speed it up a little, but now my computer doesn't see it every time it boots.... been thinking about buying a new one.

BTW for my own personal use (Windows Installation, Some Applications, and 8 to 10 games) I found 128gb to be a bit small for my PC. 240gb seemed to be much better. Less running out of space issues.
