o nvm i found something about it on the web:

"The screen is a bit of a mixed bag however. The 8-line, 120 x 160 pixel, 65K color screen produces very nice images, but the backlight just isn’t very bright. I found it odd that in some situations the brightness of the screen was increased to a much better level, but it was relatively dim most of the time. It’s difficult to see in bright sunlight, and virtually impossible to see in daylight when not in the sun. This makes the phone exceedingly difficult to use outdoors, and a real danger to use while driving a car."

look like its not a defective phone problem :|

I have this phone.. what u'r seeing is the back lighting..

I don't think you can set the light to be any longer.. as soon as the call finishes dialing it turns off to save on battery because who really cares about looking at the screen after that.. I mean, u'r busy talking to whoever you're calling.. why would you stare at the screen while dialing out to somebody?? doesn't really make sense to me..
