Stores in the US to buy a laptop/ultrabook + Current deals

Top of the evening folks!

So my family and I will be going down to Delaware in the upcoming long weekend and was looking to purchase a laptop/ultrabook for them and wasn't sure which stores to check out and what are the current deals. The best part is that in the state of Delaware, there is no tax. So what you see is what you pay.

That being said, I wanted to get some suggestions/recommendations on the brands, etc based on the following criteria. PS they don't want HP due to the numerous HP laptops that have failed them in the past couple of years.

Their requirements:

1) 13" to 15" (nothing too heavy if 15")
2) Touch screen
3) Ethernet port
4) Wireless display/HDMI
5) Optical drive (dad wants this, but the whole point of an ultrabook is for it to be light no?) *convinced dad that no one uses optical drives anymore and he is fine with it*. It was mainly for his religious CDs/DVDs, but I can convert them into digital format with a USB.
6) Battery life has to be good
7) No powerhouse

My requirements:

1) SSD - yes I know that most come with the regular HDD, but I thought if I get something with a SSD it will be easier from the get go. Vs buying separately, then installing the OS, applications, etc. Unless there are ones with a smaller SSD only for the OS + app installation. Or something that can have a SSD installed without difficulty? Such as installing the current Intel SSD from the previous HP laptop that died.

2) Nothing too expensive. Max I'd say $850?

Cheers.

Basically what I do when I know I'm going to the States is live on SlickDeals/FatWallet for a good week beforehand.

HP has a 14" ENVY ultrabook at the Microsoft store for $599 USD.

Thanks! Note: HP is not an option... Due to their previous past bad experiences.

Seems like the Dell ones only ship on the 24th. No go on those ugh lol.

90% of the deals are online. You'll save more if you can order and have it shipped to a mailbox at your destination.

Hmmm... haven't seen any online deals. I saw Dell but they don't ship until the 24th which is too late. $750 for an Inspiron 14 touch + $50 coupon on top off that.

http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-14r-5 ... n-14r-5437

Plus I rather have my folks test out the laptop/ultrabook before purchasing it as opposed to ordering something they don't like via online.

This one seems to ship quickly and can select next business day shipping for $25 more. http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-15r-5 ... n-15r-5537 $599 with discount + $50 coupon.

If we go with a Dell from the US, will it have warranty coverage in Canada?

Any difference between http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-15-75 ... on-15-7537 and the 15R?

I take it Dell US accepts CDN CC and I can ship it to my cousin's place.

How come the US 15R Touch has less RAM, HDD space and an i3 Vs the Canadian one with more RAM, HDD and an i5 CPU?

US: http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-15r-5 ... pnXfx7j2vg $649.99 with $50 coupon = $599.99 + NO TAX since shipped to Delaware
Canadian: http://www.dell.com/ca/p/inspiron-15r-5 ... n-15r-5537 $679.99 + taxes = $768.39

Edit: Saw this one too: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... gnorebbr=1

btw why not look into those 11" (or larger) tablet pc's! for parents and working on they are pretty handy.

what i'm thinking is more in line of the 500T US version which had a stylus built in vs the canadian version (obviously something newer and faster though since the 500T is old now)

Such as the XPS and Asus ones? Where you can flip it or take the tablet portion out?

Basically they will be using it for Office productivity (most of the work), web browsing, Skype and YouTube streaming. They are heavy users, as in not for gaming, editing but rather using the laptop on a frequent basis during the day.

Something like that. They are good to physically us all the time and some of htem have really good battery life. Just make sure you don't accidently pick out a clunky or slow one.

TBH I played with the atom on the 500T and it seemed fine for everyday stuff (office, skype, youtube etc) and the specs for battery life were good (10 hours) plus it was lighter. However, a lot of ppl are mentally against it lol.

--- Also OOoooooo just realized I'm nearing my 1k post lol
