My computer has been hijacked, my Internet Explorer keeps going on this site called NOOS and the site is in French. Please help me how to get rid of it. I installed my Norton again but I can't get it to run Live updates but when it scanned it didnt't detect any viruses, I also installed Microsoft antispyware but its not doing anything. what can I do to get rid of it.

And after I get rid of it do I have to uninstall Windows XP and all the programs and start fresh?

post your problem here (http://www.spyware911.net/forum/index.php?) . it is owned by a RFD member and has quite a few members who read HJT logs .....they`ll only be too glad to fix you up . :)

Tip for the future, and for others right now.. don't use Internt Explorer.

Do yourself a favour and install Mozilla Firefox.

IE's fine. Firefox is not without holes either. Just make sure you have XP SP2 or some 3rd party pop up blocker. To get rid of the spyware, you'll need to use several products (adaware, spysweeper, spybot, etc, etc). One product never gets rid of everything.

LOL! IE's fine? Wow. I know how to use a computer well enough that I've never had a spyware / adware problem. If you know how to use and respond to things IE does, then yeah, you can get by for the most part.

There have been many documented cases of spyware self-installing on systems by just visiting certain web-pages. No clicks on pop-ups, no ActiveX installs and I'm not just talking about cookies here.

Firefox is a lot more secure than IE. SP2 does little to nothing other than providing one extra barrier before installing ActiveX components. (Although it is helpful that it prompts you before downloading the components now.)

You are quite correct that Firefox is not without holes, but seriously... saying it's on the same level as IE... come on. You might as well say that a Mercedes S-Class is on the same level as a 1971 Ford Pinto because the possibility of being killed in either still exists. It is true... but what's the likelihood of one versus the other?

IE is fine you just have to scan your computer regular and block those annoying popups and watch for what is being install or register in your startup (startup mechanic is great)
I use IE for a long time never have serious problem
but before my computer have no protection i get problem like this too, IE being redirect to other sites
but now my computer is protected under spyblaster and spybot search and destroy for activex spywares and popup block and i do regular scan now computer runs great with IE
i scan for spyware using spydoctor or adaware once a month most of the time it only finds spyware cookies
and i run update definition file for each of the programs once a week

Now to help your problem
hijack forums usually take long to get responses so i hope i will help you with some basic spyware programs
your computer is most likely infected by spywares not virus so norton will not help you need good spyware removal programs to do the job.
everytime the IE directs you to that "NOOS" site it will just install more
spywares
try download and install these free programs if you can still go online at download.com

bazooka adware and spyware scanner
this is very quick only takes 1 second to scan but it doesn't do the remove, but scan your computer first and tell us what it detects and we can start from there but if you want to go straight down to removal try the programs
below

spyware doctor 3.2
this program finds and prompt user to remove a lot of spywares but watch out what you select to remove because it will detect program like flashget as spyware (this is a good program if not free version), so spyware doctor is not recommend for novice user.

Ad-Aware SE 1.05
the best known spyware removal tool for free, most of the spywares this program detects is safe to be remove. But sometimes it will miss something spyware doctor detects. Recommend for any user.

and before you run scan for the first time please run update manually if the program does not prompt you to.

i hope i help, if those programs does fix the problem you do not need to uninstall/reinstall xp. If you are interested in protecting your computer to minimize the chances of "hijacked" in the future feel free to pm me i got a whole list of great programs

I don't know why people wait for Spyware to install on their system and then go looking for programs to remove them.

Why not stop the Spyware from installing in the first place. Use SpywareBlaster

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

This will not eliminate all the Spyware, but it will reduce the amount significantly. Best of all it does not take up any resources. Zero, nothing.

Read up on it. Works for both Firefox and Internet Explorer

I know. The only way we can help hellokitty is if she (he) can post a log from Hijack This.

Until she does so, telling her to use Spyware Removers like Ad-Aware and Spybot is pretty much all we can do.

You gave a list of good programs, I just wanted to add my recommendation to the list.

Go here: http://nyquil-kid.dyndns.org/

and download the Anti-Virus bootdisk, burn to a CD, boot from it and scan with that. It won't load windows, it'll scan from Linux and hopefully delete or remove the infected files so they don't load when you restart Windows. Read the instructions carefully at the website or any infected files may come back when you start windows.

Please quote me where I said they were equals. I use IE, no spyware installed here. I'm not here to start an IE vs Firefox debate.

no,no,no spyblaster is all you need for the moment. It has the option to adjust ie's home page even if the spyware changed and locked it. Its under tools at the left. Pick your home page again and then allow spyblaster to lock it so it doesn't happen again. Its reall easy and simple. Don't worry its Not a really bad spyware attack.but after you do run adaware etc to clean cause that infect home page that it would send you too probably infects u each time you opened IE.

Well don’t panic, I don’t know why they use the term "hijacked" for these situations, it really hasn’t been taken over by a person more a computer code that modified some of your files. Usually most cases can be removed by Hijackthis- its a anti spam software removal tool just scans your registry entries and spits out what type of garbage gets started while starting up your computer and while running windows, you get to choose what o remove and you can also backup just incase you delete something that you need by accident.

There are also spyware removal tools similar to virus scanners that work on similar concept as virus scanners with updates of most recent spyware definition files. I'm sorry for not mentioning the name of any software that does this as its been a long while since I used one. Ever since service pack 2 came out I didn’t really have to use any 3rd party software to control my pop ups or have any "hijackings".

As far as prevention is concerned, read everything before you click yes or no on, sometimes they get little tricky.

Actually the AVCD has both antivirus and anti-spyware; here is a list of the programs found on the AVCD:
