In terms of performance, is the PS2 Slim better than it's previous model? the one with the + sign on the box of the ps2? Or is the bigger ps2 better than the ps2 slim? thx =)

They are exactly the same unit. Only thing different would be the network adaptor. Slim being built in if i remember correctly and hard drive capabilities.

Sony was stupid for not making the hdd act like a memory card.
Hmmm.... most likely they make more money on the memory cards than the HDD...

I think all in time there will be hacks to solve this problem with the slim version. *shrugs*

USBLoader is coming out soon to rectify this (aka USB Extreme).
It'll be slower though thanks to USB2 speeds and you'll need an enclosure.

USB 2.0 is faster than IDE.
I believe Sony ditched the HDD as you could copy games to the drive and not need the DVD anymore.

Um, where did you get this myth?
Sony dumped the HD since only FFXI really used it. With the HD gone, they could really shrink the PS2 (PS2Slim looks pretty nice). Good choice. Do you think Sony wanted to make it easy for pirates? Only the Xbox claims to use their HD to cache the data. The USBLoader is in the grey-area/illegal boundary. Totally non-official and you can bet Sony is having their legal team look to see if they can nail the folks releasing it. "Backing up" is such a ludicrous concept nowadays.

From what I've heard, the USB port on the PS2 is only usb1, thus, it'll be pretty slow.

USB Extreme/Loader/Advanced (or whatever you want to call it) sucks. It runs like ass.
And the PS2 does NOT have USB 2.0 ports, not even the slim ones.

I don't really agree with that, in theory you should be able to make back ups of your expensive games to prevent the original from being damaged / scratched.
It is unfortuante that "back ups" have become synonymous with piracy

install locks don't prevent thiefs, only makes them work harder to break in, install enough layers of barrier, only the most determined thief will attmpt to break in.
it's a never ending war between rich companies and pirates (nerds)

the slim has only usb 1.1, therefore usbextreme is the same speed or slower than using media

can't play Gran Turismo 3/4 properly w/o the force feedback wheel hooked up to the USB port.
