Ti4800 Artifact Issue!

Hi guys,

First off

- No i did not overclock this video card ever since i receieved it.
- Any damages? i think so...and i think i know the problem but i want to be assured ^^'

Anyways, heres the problem. Quite a long time ago (like an year ago or so) i got this MSI Ti4800SE Video card from someone. The first time we tried it (me and my bro) it was giving artifacts (tested on 2 pc's). We didnt really see any physical damages and the video card we dont think is softmodded(can u even softmod a geforce card??) and we dont think its hardmodded or anything either.

But later on (a couple of weeks later) we discovered that the one of the Caps was loose and so it broke. So i test it again and obviously we still see artifacts and all..

I guess my question is, if i am to solder the cap back to its position, you think this card will work artifactless or is it just a waste of time and money?

by cap do you mean the capacitor?

Usually artifacts are the results of too much overclocking and inadequate cooling.

If it really was the capacitor then I would expect the card to not work at all.

I personally think your just wasting your time and better off buying a new card.

but then whats the situation with the capacitor? like doesnt it affect the video card in a way? if the artifacts is the cooling problem only then ill try downclocking or adding an extra fan or something ^^'

I already have a video card for my main system (which i am using right now, the ti4400) so thats no problem, this is just an extra card hehe..

yea umm..i was just testing it again, and using windows regular geforce drivers it showed artifacts but atleast i could see something, once i installed the new drivers from nvidia it just messed up the whole screen and stuff. Something we did not experience the last time we checked it (when the cap was only loose..)

I will try and solder it soon and let you guys know what happens, hopefully it will work out. I just wanted to confirm that soldering would make a difference and in this case hopefully fix the problem.
