Hi everyone,
I'm looking to get a larger desk... something that can accomodate a 2005fpw, 19 inch lcd, and a laptop. I'm looking for something that will be comfortable for gaming and hopefully somewhat cheap (don't want to spend 400-500 on a desk).
I've looked at the jerker model at Ikea, looks decent - pretty sturdy, and the price is good - $89 for the base model. There's also a L-shaped glass desk at the Brick for 200 which looks pretty good as well. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Build your own! That's what I did!
I ended up spending about $600 but that's because it's s huge freaking desk. It would have cost well over $2000 to buy.

That's what i did. Bought a 1" thick piece of plywood 8'x 4' cut it down abit, rounded the corners so i don't hurt anyone, sanded it down, painted it black and bought 4 ikea legs and some shelving.
Total price $75.00 for a huge table that fits anything i want on it.

Built mine too - 6 drawers with an A64 built into one of them, glass top, and big. Lot of work, not CHEAP cheap ($250 in lumber and $75 for the custom glass top) but definitely a bargain considering the look and utility.
Will do it again for my next desk.

$90 jerker?... nah... my gf got a $35 Jerker (single tier) and I got a $45 Jerker (2 tier), as-is section but only the box was beat up :) Not the greatest looking desk (actually kinda an eye sore) but does the job done :)

The missing drawer was in my shop having the PC built into it. There is also a slot at the back of that cabinet for my UPS, and channels along the back of the desk for all the cabling. I think I have a construction thread here somewhere, but I'm not sure. I can post some build pics if needed.
The panels and tabletop under the glass are all 3/4" oak ply, and the trim and drawer faces are solid oak.
edit: tough to tell because of the glare off the glass, but it's actually the same stained oak under the glass, which is inset flush into the trim. Very solid and easy to clean work surface.

if you have the tools, or the hooks up build..
the best is to build your own desk.. take a good walk at home depot and look around you'll find a really nice desk to build one.

Go spend $149 at Ikea and buy a Jerker. Mine has been great and it is large enough to accommodate your needs.
Jerkers come in different configurations; I bought the one with the shelf.
This is the exact one I have, though this isn't my picture.

Wow! Nice desk! That is a lot nicer than anything I've seen in store - and I've been checking furniture stores all over edmonton!
I was just telling my g/f that I wish I had the carpentry skills to build my own - tailor it to my exact needs...
