This seems like a stupid question, but I need enlightenment. If my mobo supports up to DDR333, and the price for either DDR333/400 are relatively the same, shouldn't I just buy DDR400 anyways? It may only be limited to DDR333 performance on my mobo, but at least I have the head room if I decide to upgrade both mobo/cpu. Or does my logic not work? I don't see why anyone would buy DDR333 over DDR400.

compatibility. Some boards are extremely picky and some DDR400 just plain doesn't work in them. Otherwise, your logic is sound.

never ever had that problem before... go with the DDR400 if you think ur gonna use in the future

just make sure whatever ram you buy your mobo supports it. then it won't matter if you want to go 333 or 400.

The only PC's I've ever seen that won't accept a higher rated RAM are a few Dells and many notebooks from different vendors. You're probaby good to go.

go with 400.

There is also an added benefit that the ram will "overclock" well from the 333 fsb that you have (well, it is really 166).

if you have enuff ram in your current system dont' spent extra money on putting more "OLD" ram into the system.

DDR2 is out already.

and when you buy your new mobo with in 6 months or so..

the new mobos by then would be using ddr2. so wouldn't buy the extra ram or upgradding it. anytime soon. your better off to buy the mobo, ram, and cpu all at the same time so nothing would slow down or be the bottleneck of the speeds of the new cpu speeds..

I'm currently running an Athlon XP 2400+ Thoroughbred with probably cheap generic 2 X 512MB PC2100 DDR266 RAM in a Shuttle SN41G2V3 barebone kit supporting Socket A and bus speed up to 400 MHz but limited to DDR333.

So my question is, I wouldn't be able to makle full use of an Athlon XP 3200+, for example, which supports bus speed of 400 MHz since my mobo is limited to DDR333 right?
