Ok, i am really pissed off.
Last August/September I bough a Simoniz power washer for around the 250 bucks on sale. Right out of the box i have had problems with the soap not working, canadian tire would NOT Return it to there store at all, and Simonize was less then helpfull, thus the soap never really worked...
Yesterday I took it out for the first time, turned it on and now it wont even pressurize. This thig has been used maybe 12 times, and is also leaking like a siv....... I went to Canadian tire yesterday, the CS told me that they cannot return it, that they have signs all over the powerwashers saying to call the hotline first, I told them how useless simoniz's cs was and then he started saying that they have lots of them being attempted to return, and that they have cheap mechanisims inside them and although simonize says nothing is wrong, they know there is something with them but their hands are tied, he suggested i take it accross the streeet and pay for a repair from a private repair place.
So I wentback on the phone, was on with simonize for 40 minutes *last 30 was on hold) so i hung up and called back into the system, and was told that i want an exchangem no more BS and they said someone will call later this week... I highly doubt it since they seem extremmly inept. I have tried ever single trouble shouting, this thing is obviously a lemon, and Canadian tire knows it, why they hell wont they stand by the product or stop selling them and ripping peeople off

If you bought it with Mastercard/ Visa, you could probably get them to intervene.
U could also write to a newspaper.
Or to the President of Canadian Tire.
Try getting the Canadian Tire corporate email list then send an email blast.

I'm one of those guys that will spend a few extra bucks to buy from CT before another store, but as soon as I saw these signs up I shook my head.
Basically it said to me "well folks we are sorry but we entered a ****** contract and now we have to sell these crappy things for a few years"
I don't think it CTs fault, they warn people, simoniz should be a heads up company and deal with these things quickly.
I like the idea of buying Karcher too:)

I have a problem with a car wax company suddenly selling pressure washers.
I wouldn't buy a Tommy Hilfiger pressure washer either.
You probably should have bought a Karcher or a Husky.

Half the time the problem is with the users breaking the Simoniz while putting it together/using it, which is why they don't want to take them back.

OMG I have the same problem as you! My parents bought the 1750 last yr (or 1600) anyways, Simnoz also has the SHITTIEST website! It doesn't even look like a real company manufacturer. Also, the hotline we are told to call, is NOT AFFILIATE with simoniz. Its like a speical hotline for canadian tire customers who get ****ed over.
I called them as well, and someone was supposed to call me back. A "pressure washer engineer" LOL I was like wtf?? Anyways, the person never called me back. I bought mine last year as well.
Well the problem with mine, is its a *****!!!!!!!!!!!!! to take the "rod" thingie off. Its SO UNBELIVEABLY HARD! The other thing that ****ed up now, is it DOES NOT turn off when on high pressure when you let go of the handle! WTF IS THAT? So i can squeeze it on, but once the high pressure is going it can't turn off?! I have to switch it from high pressure to low pressure which sucks cuz the handle is so long and its hard as a rock too.
Also, when you press "ON" on your simoniz washer, your motor is supposed to stay on right? I'm not sure about this, tell me what happens to yours. but whenever I squeeze mine on low power, motor turns on, sprays, than motor turns off. I thought it was suppoed to stay on as soon as u press "ON"?
Maybe I should write a letter to Canadian Tire president, anyone have his e-mail?

MLC2000 did mention about the mastercard/visa. Hmm.......i should look into that. Do you know what I would do?
Like its not a chargeback is it? I think they have 1 yr warranty by Simoniz, but you have to ship the ****ing thing to the States. The thing weighs like 20lbs. and is the size of a friggin 7 yr old.

One of my friends who use to work at Crappy tire told me that Electric Pressure washer are no good. You have to buy GAS. Also Crappy Tire will not allow you to bring back the unit once water goes through it. The best place to buy any Pressure washer is Home Depot just because you can return it with out issues. I currently own a 2500PSI GAS Pressure washer from home depot and so far I have had No problems with it

Nightgod, for most household applications an electric pressure washer is fine. That said, the Simonize models aren't worth a penny IMO. We have an electric Karcher that is now about 7 years old. It has seen some heavy use and is still going strong. Not only has it been used to wash farm machinery, it's also been used to wash out cow stalls and wash cattle. At this house we use it 3 times a year to wash the whole house down. We have also used it to remove stain from over 100 feet of fence and wash decks down.

In general I've found CT's Customer Service to be great. They returned a small pressure washer that broke with no questions asked. (maybe because they knew it was garbage to begin with - $69 pressure washer...)
CT up in Newmarket wasn't so good tho.

CT is still trying to unload their Simoniz crap at every sale they have.
A friend of mine had the same issue and could get Simoniz cs nor his CT store to help.
He wrote to CT's head office, which in turn called the store and ordered them to exchange the item.
Edit: Item exchanged, not refunded.

Simoniz........I remember that.....
We exchanged like 3 times and in the end, bought another brand....
CT wasn't very helpful at all.....
it has something to with with the voltage thing.....(electric stuff)
My family member wrote to simoniz and they said they are not afilated to CT, so, he ended up complaining to CT website email and after few email correspondence, CT Simoniz rep sent us 1 set of car wash brushing kit to apologize..
Glad we didn't keep that piece of junk.....

Did you leave it outside during the winter? it you did it probably froze and busted something.
I also have a Simonez and it works good, but when i first got it the nozel kept going from a fan to point on its own and it was quite the process trying tp get a replacement. They had to send a replacement 3 times before they actually send the correct part

I bought a 1400 PSI unit a couple of years ago and used it maybe 10 times over 2 years (stored in my basement for the winter) before it died. Service depot that Simoniz sent me to wanted $120 + tax to fix a pressure washer I paid $100 for. The service guy said the seals in the pump were gone and he recommended "decalcification" of the pump.
I ended up selling him the unit for $20 for parts.
I now own a Karcher 2400 psi gas unit (Honda 5 hp engine) it was $300 at last fall's Karcher warehouse sale. Comes with a 2 yr warranty.
Simoniz is CRAP!
The silliest thing is that no matter how many people keep complaining on RFD that Simoniz is junk, there's always some fool that posts a "Hot Deal" on Simoniz pressure washers at CT and a bunch of folks run out and buy them!
If you are looking for a pressure washer to buy and you live in the GTA, Karcher has warehouse sales twice a year. They sell the low end gas unit with a Briggs & Stratton engine for as little as $269 which is a much better deal than any Simoniz junk!

Any machine where pressurized water is running through it is bound to have problems. Any sub $150 machine where pressurized water is running through it is undoubtedly going to have problems. All these things suck. I remember I had a problem with the handle on mine a few years ago (and it was not this shittty one, it was another shittty Simoniz CL11) but when I went to get it fixed at the place CT said to go the guy said he was so busy he did not know what to do. Everyone is buying these and they are breaking constantly, good business if you are into repairing these things. Mine is still working but it acts up from time to time, and I never know if this season will be its last. Twice already the handle has gone and water leaks out of it. Buyer beware.

It was about closing and the manager wouldn't let us refund....and we wouldn't leave....
and in the end, we sort of gave in and said we would exchange for diff brand name:(krosher?? (spelling....yellow cover)) and another $100 more....and first they gave us a box; we asked to open it.....sure enough, it's already been USED....so, we asked for another brand new box.....and that one came out brand new.....and that's how we ended the conversation at CT ....
Later on, we were still fumed....so, we wrote to CT head quarter, etc, etc, etc, and one guy claimed to be simoniz rep......and we wrote email explaining why it wouldn't work because of voltage.....and they sent us the car wash kit as a thank you for explaining stuff to them and responded to their inquiry.....
Anyway, really hated the experience as we had to go back and forth 3 times......

I'll echo what everyone is saying about Simoniz, Even on display at CT they look cheap. What the problem with them along with Karcher is the o-rings break inside the pumps. Its a simple fix if your handy in that way. I have replaced 6 in my Karcher K655m and its 2 years old, still works good.
Best way is to go with a gas one that has axial or triplex plunger pump. I purchased a axial pump and hooked it up to a Honda 5.5hp engine for all my power washing goodness ;)

simple explanations for several reasons why it is hard to return pressure washers at CT:
1) someone already alluded to this but many times ppl break the machine when putting it together
2) once it has been used (i.e. water has gone through the machine), it becomes REPAIR WARRANTY ONLY - same policy applies to lawnmowers - once it has been used - it is REPAIR ONLY
many ppl will cry and complain about this and state but home depot takes it back - but remember one thing - CT is not HD
HD is a HUGE corp and CT is only a national corp
as an employee of a CT store (but not for much longer!!!) - i can honestly say one thing - CT has had HUGE problems in the past with customers "Renting" equipment for the weekend for various reasons. For example, someone will look at a lawnmower display in store and like the model but when they get home, not like the power. They then return the USED product to the store. The store cant resell this lawnmower bc it has been used so they have to scrap it. When this happens on a very consistent basis - the store loses $$$. And since the stores are franchised, corp put the repair warranty policy into place to protect its dealers. Too many customers took advantage of the return policy.
And to counter the arguement that "you should be able to return a product that you arent happy with". all i have to say is this:
If i bought a condom but didnt like the way that it felt during sex, should i be able to return it?????
Nope, bc its stupid.
Ha ha

First off, I would agree with your statement that people "Rent" products, BUT I CLEARLY STATED ALL I WANTED WAS AN EXCHANGE
The setup for these powerwashers is as follows
Screw hose on
Plug cord in
Screw soap dispencer to holster
Press on Button
Fire Trigger
I promise you I am more then competent enough to do those things
Regardless of any problems canadian tire has had in the past, if they sell a lemon they should at very least EXCHANGE it for the same product. I Bought a DVD from walmart once, and it had a defect in the DVD shipment, Although they have a NO RETURN POLICY ON OPEN MEDIA they still saw that they sold me a faulty product and exchanged it for me.
Just as a chain is as strong as its weakest link, Canadian tire can also be defined by its weakest link, I too have gone out of my way to purchase a product from them before, but this may but a stop to it

My Simoniz S2000 (gas powered) that I bought in Feb for $299 (before reading this thread) has a Briggs & Stratton engine as well.
**Note I did have problems with it not starting after only using it a few times. It had been sitting outside in the rain for 2 - 3 weeks but I don't have a shed/garage and can't bring this in the house everytime I'm not using it. I did manage to get it working by putting some fuel additive in it. I'm assuming there was water in the gas tank. I'm hoping I don't have more troubles with it. I had called Simoniz's supprt line and they were useless. Told me to take it to the nearest service place (Dewalt ??). Thankfully I got it working without resorting to that.

Thanks for all of your warnings, guess I won't be getting a simoniz even though it looks like a good deal. I'm sure glad I checked here before buying one. Well the hose didn't help at all. Without the pump or hose on, the water goes about 24' with standard house pressure, when I initiate the pump, the pressure increases slightly and the distance remains the same. As soon as I hook-up the new hose and line they sent me, I have very little pressure!.
I can't find the damn warranty but I must of used the unit 8 tiimes since I bought it.
Junk.

It really annoys me that CT is still advertising Simoniz products on TV. The more I read this thread, the more I am losing respect for this company. I rather pay more and get something reliable from HD.
To the guy that mentioned the condom, lol that's funny, but this is completely different here. If a company were to sell unreliable products, they should take it back and either refund the money or repair it for free. That's what I called good CS, but from the looks of it, it seems like CT doesn't have any.

OH OH.
I should have read this thread first... here is my experience from yesterday:
Well I picked a Simoniz power washer from Canadian Tire today as they were on sale (great deal... 2500psi, 6 hp http://www.canadiantire.ca/assortments/product_detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=140847439 6670761&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474396670271&bmUID=1119725601438&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524443281848&assortment=primary&fromSearch=true )
Well I get home and open the package and find the thing looks like it fell off the truck (several times!).
Man I was pissed, so I call Canadian Tire and let the customer service know what I found when I opened the box. CTC tell me to contact Simoniz for parts since they sold all of their stock on the power washers.
Talk about a run-around... CTC sells me this beat up power washer, then tell me to contact the manufacture!
I check the Simoniz website and find this:
Canadian Tire Customers
If you purchased a pressure washer from Canadian Tire and you are experiencing problems, please call the phone number listed in your manual. Simoniz USA and Canadian Tire are not affiliated companies. Thank you.
I can only assume Simoniz gets a lot of complaints about CTC.
Since the price was good I'm gonna try to get a replacement one from CTC... just wonder how long that's gonna take. :unn:

:unn:

I posted this on the wrong thread last week- sorry for the redundancy (newbies make these mistakes)......
first post! Just bought the s1900 last week for my father- on sale for $170- big mistake! .....after assembling the thing, it wouldn't turn on; tried everything, but to no avail. Called Simoniz- told me that it was probably defective and that he (the cs rep) would give me a ref# to exchange it for another....told him it was going back to ct.....I arrived at ct with said pressure washer at the return counter; was going to exchange it for another until I saw FOUR more in a cart behind the counter which were also returned!...told the clerk I'd just like my money back.....she called someone (all I heard was "another Simoniz came back....) and returned my money. They know it's a bad product. btw- this was at the Agincourt CT.
And can someone tell me where I can find a KARCHER. And are they on sale anywhere- I'm looking for an electric one. Thanks for letting me vent.

If anyones looking for a proper power washer, if honda makes em you can bank on em. Just dont buy a hybrid one or anything like that (joke on OP).
People ask me why I spent so much on my honda snow blower when I could have gotten a more powerful one at CT. I tell because its a honda. 2 year warranty's always make me feel better.

Quite a thread here on Simoniz, I wish i read this in 2004. I bought my Simoniz 1600 in December 2004 for a Boxing Day Sale at CT and used it quite a lot in 05 and 06, until it blew oil all over my deck. I'm a pretty handy guy so I thought I'd take a look at the motor and get it ready for this summer. There is no noticeable damage, but it is obvious the valve oil seals are leaking. I called Simoniz Customer Service and the Rep was very friendly and very good at trying to help, so I have no issue with the people that try to help.
However when I told her I was trying to locate valve seals for this unit, she indicated that Simoniz does NOT cary internal parts for their motors, and I should seek out a local repair shop to see if they could supply a replacement valve....
Bottom line here is that even SIMONIZ does not carry parts for their motors, so Never Again will I buy a PRESSURE WASHER from a WAX COMPANY.....
Hopefully, the same won't happen to my SIFTO Water Softener......

I doubt the wax company even makes these. They prob outsource it to someone else, and market it under their name b/c people are more likely to buy something that sounds familiar.
At any rate I have heard little good about Simoniz pressure washers and there seems to be tons of evidence suggesting it is poorly made/designed.

Did you leave it outside during the winter? it you did it probably froze and busted something.
Agree. If you left it in your garage over the winter, it froze and that's why it's leaking. This happened with my Karcher.

I just needed to share my experience with a Simoniz unit bought from Canadian Tire.
My parents purchased me the unit for my birthday dec/05. The unit sat in my basement unopened until apr/06 when I attempted to wash my deck (12'x14'). I got about half way through and the unit stopped. It had tripped the breaker for the outlet. I reset the outlet but it continued to trip the breaker.
I contacted CT and was told that I would have to call Simoniz which I did. I was told to take it to a local reapir depot (Swish). I finally got a call in late July that the unit was repaired. The unit was not used until Oct of that year when I attempted to pressure wash the family boat. Half way through the unit lost pressure. I called Simoniz again and was told to take it back to Swish which I did. They repaired the unit in early Dec and it sat in my basement until this spring. This year I was able to wash my entire deck...much to my suprise and got halfway through washing my car (the same day) when the unit once again lost pressure.
So, another call to Simoniz and another trip to Swish. I just got the call last week that the unit was ready to be picked up. I was told that the nozzle needed to be replaced because of improper storage (a $65 charge to me) ????? They insisted that I had stored the unit with the wand attached to the nozzle and it had affected the seal. I informed them that the unit had not been stored that way and once again had only been in use for less than an hour when it failed.
I politley told the gentleman that I had used the unit for less than 3 hours total and had been returned for repair after each failed attempt. I said I would not sink a dime into it and told him to keep the unit. As I walked out of the store he said that he would have the manager call me to discuss the situation (coincidentally he is my brother's neighbour). I told him not to bother..a lesson learned.
What an absolute piece of garbage...please do not buy anything from Simoniz...nothing but a headache.

Actually Simoniz has a better return and exchange policy compared to the other brands CT carry. Some of them only have a seven day refund or over the counter warranty.
I had to fight to return my Simoniz I had for 2 weeks. I told them that they should have signs posted in the PW section as to the details of their return and exchange policy for pressure washers.
The whole experience of dealing with CT left a bad taste in my mouth, and I definitely will think twice before purchasing things from them.

Well I'm glad that I'm not alone. I bought the S1500 a few years ago... it was crappy the day I took it out of the box (not sure why I didn't attempt to return it then). Dusted it off and tried to use it once again today to no avail. I thought it was just me, but I'm glad to hear that others have experienced the same problems with Simoniz. I was contemplating buying the part the technician recommended over the phone, but now I'm sure not to waste any more $ on my lemon.>:(
I must say though, I've never understood the 'Crappy Tire' moniker. In general I've been satisfied with their price and service.

I was about to start a new thread when I found this one. I'm in a pickle with my NEW S1700 that I bought for 50% off in the spring. Within the first 90 days I exchanged it because it started leaking water along the trigger. Today I took it out to clean my lawnmower and the handle/trigger started spraying water right in my face. I definitely heard something pop inside. This has a 2 year warranty BUT I can't find my receipt. I have a feeling that when I exchanged it the first time I left the receipt with Canadian Tire. What should I do now?

How did you pay for the washer?
If pay by CC, go find the statement with the purchase or call CC CSR and ask for a copy of the statement.
Bring it to the CT refund/return desk, and ask them if they can reprint a copy of the original receipt, or use your CC statement as proof of purchase for warranty purpose.
Lastly, call CT CSR head office and ask if there's anyway they can help you out.

I am another purchaser of a Simoniz pressure washer from Canadian Tire in Burnaby. I bought mine about a year ago, but I don't remember any signs warning me about CT's policy.
I started using it and the first think I noticed was the hard spray rod would even go on. So I started using the smaller one and it was OK. Then the connecting sleeve where the water connects cracked. I jury-rigged it with some other hose stuff I had and it was OK again. I used it about 4 more times and the next time I used it, it started leaking like a sieve and this reduced the pressure, so it was ineffective.
I have now searched the Simoniz website and see my attempts at service will likely be futile. Can someone post the Canadian Simoniz phone number so I can get my blood pressure up trying to call for service or service locations in Canada. Maybe I should just head to Home Depot and buy one of those scoocum gas powered Husky machines?

I bought a 1700 washer in April and used it twice and now motor no longer working. It's the worst product I have ever bought ( big mistake and the support / warranty is terrible as they just brush u off and get you to get it fixed ). These things don't work and are defective.

I bought a 1700 model for my mother and it turned out into another piece of crap. Followed the instructions, primed the machine with water before turning it on, vollia, it siezed up solid within the first 5 seconds. Happy to report - took it back to CT for a full money refund and invested in a quality Karcher.

A quick note to add to this thread. A couple months ago I was in the market for a pressure washer and saw this discussion, decided to stay FAR away from Canadian Tire.
Ended up getting a Karcher 5.85m from Costco for $200. I just bought a new house this summer, and of course I wanted to clean EVERYTHING (was cleaning the sidewalk out front this weekend and the wife started looking at me a little funny).
Anyway, after over a month of fairly heavy use, I've had absolutely zero problems with the unit. The price was decent, the unit works well, and I know that Costco stands behind the products it sells with a really good warrantee.
I do often shop at Cdn Tire, but I would HIGHLY recommend skipping them for the pressure washer, and going to Costco.
My only other word of advise, if you think you'll be using the washer more than 1-2 times per year, get a gas-powered one. You can get a decent one (at Costco again, of course), for around $350. The extra money it absolutely worth it when you are using it heavily or for tough jobs like driveways and decks.

When I bought my Simoniz POS the owner's manual specifically mentioned that occasionally the pump required a boost to start. They suggested a very large allen key to spin the pump. If I didn't do that all I got was a loud buzzing noise (sound of a siezed motor) and then the breaker would trip. So what you are describing may be normal for the POS.

I must be lucky. I have a 1600psi simoniz pressure washer and i use it about 1 - 2 times a month and it's still works after 3 years.
The unit was not perfect though. The thing came with a cheap crappy hose + wand. The hose developed multiple leaks after less than a year of usage. The gun cracked shortly after (probably my fault since i dropped it though). I ended up replacing the gun + hose with the $35 Simoniz wand+hose combo from crappy tire. The new one was much better quality and has been working great for a couple years now. It just needs to be treated gently. Avoid dropping the wand and never pull on a tangled hose because it will kink+break.
Anyways, other than the crappy attachments and accessories, the simoniz pressure washer was not bad for $125. I'd buy it again but only if it was $100ish.
BTW, just to comment on crappy tire. I think the company is full of crap. For example, early this year Crappy Tire had to recall a ton(approx 40,000 units) of battery boosters w/ counterfeit CSA marks. By law crappy tire was not allowed to sell any of them because they weren't certified to applicable safety standards. Some of the boxes had the CSA mark crossed off w/ a sharpie so it was very obvious someone somewhere knew what was going on. In crappy tire's recall notice they pretended the recall was voluntary and also claimed it was due to a "defect" not because the product wasn't certified + beared a counterfeit CSA mark. There was a design flaw due to someone sneaking the product onto the shelf w/out proper safety certication but there was never a "defect". That's a shady PR move, don't you think? IMO, they weren't as innocent as they claim to be. See the links below for more information.

Received a Simoniz 1400 as an xmas gift from my parents 4 yrs ago. I remember the CT sale when this was advertised...something like 125 bucks so back then this was a steal!
After first year the nozzle where the hose and trigger attach cracked and leaked...Don't have the receipt so Called Simoniz...no help, nothing. So I picked up a replacement nozzle/hose for 35 bucks at CT. Second year, first car wash of the year, the connection between the wand and nozzle leaked. Keep in mind that I have "gently" used this thing over a dozen times...at best. So, now I'm pissed..bought yet another nozzle/hose at CT, packaged up the leaky one and returned it to CT (ya ya...not the right thing todo but hey, Simoniz wasn't going to help).
Third year, leaked a bit at the nozzle....held on for the year...maybe half a dozen uses
Forth year..now the compressor keeps turning on and off while turned on. Most likely a seal went on it. Pressure is down a bit too. I don't use it much anymore because the sound is so bloody annoying.
Glad I got it for free...Simoniz is JUNK!!!!
Unless you get it for free, stay away.

Haven't read the whole thread, but how are you folks storing your pressure washers in the winter? In a un-heated garage? If so, some of the residual water may still be inside, freezing internally and ruining all sorts of seals and rings as a result.
Just something to keep in mind.

OK I need a spray handle for my Simoniz machine. I look on their website and it does not have that model number. I phone their service and the guy says that my machine is a S1400 & he has to transfer me to another department. I wait & get that department and the lady asks for my serial number and then tells me it is wrong???? I explain to her it is not wrong as I am starring at it. She then explains it must be made by Karcher and even thou my machine has Simoniz all over it and on the serial number plate and on the manual Simoniz knows nothing about it. Tells me to phone Karcher at 1800 465-4980, which I do. All I get is a recording now to phone RJ at 1800 383 6584.
It is like you make it impossible to get service and parts for this thing. Why do you not have all this information in the manual so I have to waste all this time trying to figure out that even thou it says Simoniz on it is made by Karcher & when I am told to phone Karcher they recording says they don’t have parts, phone RJ.

I bought one of them 2 years ago when it was 50% off. Within the first month, the spray gun was crach and leaking water. I went back to CT, they told me I have to call Simoniz for warrantly. I called them and they send me a replacement right the way within 2 weeks. I guess I am just lucky. My husband stored it in the basement during winter. It is still working well - I only use it 2 -3 times a year.

When you try return even a new pressure washer CT says there is water in the system and it has been used. Simoniz confirmed that even new washers have a little water left in them because of testing. They sell used merchandise knowing that they will not take it back.

This doesn't even make logical sense; CT won't take _any_ pressure washers back, so how can they sell you a used one?
