Hi Everyone, help would be most appreciated...Here is the situation...
Every time I download something using bit torrent, my internet connection is killed a few minutes after I start downloading. I have now tried 2 softwares (BitTorrent, and BitSpirit), I have cleaned my computer of all spyware and viruses (none existed in the first place), I have tried it on 2 different ISP's (Rogers and Sympatico, away and school) and no other computers on my network get their connection killed. I then have to restart my box to get a connection again.
If anyone can help, please let me know!
TIA!

most important thing is that u do NOT upload on the full speed ur internet can do.
for example rogers extreme can do 80Kb/s up but i always set mine to 40-50Kb/s up and never have that problem. same with sympatico i just got. just set the speed to half of the upload speed and u should be fine.
btw im using bitcomet as a client.
try that one or azureus, both let u adjust the upload speed.

Try throttaling your uploads.
Someimtes if you set your uploads to unlmiited your uploads will saturate your upload. Basically it just chokes your bandwidth.
Limit how fast you're uploading and it should help.
I use bittornado and it works pretty well in that regards.

Thanks for the useful info guys, but I have been capping uploads at 20 kb/s. Also, this started occurring w/o a change of settings...Keep the suggestions coming!

Update your network card drivers, or barring that try a different network card. I had a Netgear network card that would hang after a random amount of bittorrent use. I replaced it with a 3Com and had no problems.

Is your network wireless?

Is your network wireless?
This one is, but the connection I'm using is wired. The other network I tried it on was strictly wired.

Does it still go down if you're using the wired computer? My laptop sometimes disconnects. I'm not sure why, but I seems that when I'm connected to a lot of peers/seeds or download speed is too fast. I've tried reducing the amount of connection and it seems to be working, well at least it doesn't disconnect as often as before.

nothing to do with anything the above posts
simply put, your router cannot handle large amount of connections BT uses... you can try to limit your global connections (so you will have less peers/seeds but at least your router won't die)
i gave up on my router and now i connect directly to modem

You don't need to restart, you just have to disconnect your wireless connection and reconnect. I restarted when this happened and found that you don't need to.

Thanks for everyone's input. This is the one that seems to have put the issue to rest. Thanks for everyone's quick reply. It was very much appreciated.

It's the router. I had a Linksys WRT54G, it'll crash after about a week or so. Now using a Cisco...and all is well.

Also, might want to try Azureus for torrents. It's the best IMHO.
