I have an 8 years old Netherland dwarf rabbit, and I had never seen him sneeze before, but lately in the last few days he has begun to sneeze once in a while. I wonder if he has also got hay fever like me, because I started sneezing and coughing last weekend as well. Does any one know, because I hope my rabbit is not sick.

He's dying of old age, that dirty critter has lived too much, you ought to put him to sleep yourself by drowning him in the bathtub.

Perhaps this site will help:

what shavings are you using? Have you changed brands at all lately?

Ceadar is really bad for all small animals/birds, Pine is ok if it's kiln dried but most kinds don't write on the bag if they are or not. Aspen, Hemp and Carefresh are all good to use as well. Ceadar and pine will cause respatory problems so it might be that, try changing what bedding you use and see if that helps.

Yep. Wait til they try to stand on their two feet to clean their hands or their ears, then tap them on the shoulder and push 'em down. A lil mean, but funny.

Once I was bored and put a strip of tap on her head and she went absolutely bonkers running everywhere and jumping up and down. She must've been very scared. I felt bad.

RIP Lulu >:(

BTW, pics? :)

It's a bad idea to ask a serious question on the RFD Off-Topic section. Too many morons like to chime in. Just look at the first two replies.

BRING IT TO THE VET! It could have a cold or hairball stuck in it!

Have you brought your rabbit to a vet before? DO IT !

Thanks folks, I think he is allergic to something, because he seems fine when I play with him and he does not seem to lose his appetite. he is old, but he still plays like a kid does. I wonder how many more years he will have.

Could also be the temperature changes we have been expereincing lately from very warm back to cooler temperatures that often make humans sniffle and develop cold like symptoms.

Always happens to me. Even in summer I am sniffling with the temperature changes. Vitamin C helps me but not sure what can help your rabbit except to wrap in warm blankets and make sure he gets lots of fluids.

What do people feed their rabbits here anyway.Carrots and a store bought food pellet maybe?

I know when i studied Agriculture in the tropics the in house rabbits diet of grain/pellet type feed would be supplememented with fresh "Veggie material".

"Railway Daisy" was the choice of weed they were fed I believe.

Rabbits are pretty fragile so if you can afford it i suggest you maybe take him to the Vet if the symptoms don't subside within a couple day or if you can't figure out what's causing the reaction.
