Where do you guys get your quality media from? I just bought the 50 pack (-r) memorex ones from FS and apparently, they're not that good.

So what's a good brand to buy and where can I get them?

The dollar stores have some really good ones! ;)

The gerenal opinion in the forum is that Taiyo Yuden (TY) are the best single layer DVD Media. You best bet for buying them is from blankmedia.ca or ncix .

If you buy the 4X rated ones, they are TY value line, although still a good product and a lot cheaper, not quite as good as the 8X

Search for forums for Taiyo Yuden (TY) and you will find dozens of matches.

I wait until the Maxell or Fuji discs go on sale at FutureShop or BestBuy and look for the mij media.

Based on other post, the fuji Made In Japan DVD's aren't of the quality they use to be. You are still further ahead buying from the previous mentioned retailers plus you don't have to wait for sales.

yea, just like I wrote in another post in the hot deals section, I looked at the Fuji dvd+r 100pk discs in futureshop and they were made in Taiwan (as opposed to Japan).

But what's so bad about the memorex discs? I've been burning things w/them and everything (so far) has been perfect

Optodisc Acrocircle Super Grade's from NCIX.. when on sale.. can be had for pretty cheap.. like $7.99 for a 25pack.

Data Intergrity -- everything is "fine" now, however in a year or two or three, etc, will you be able to still read them?

Look for original Taiyo Yuden (beware of fakes) from NCIX/Blankmedia.ca or Made In Japan Maxell/Fujifilm.

Those are the 4x ones... I used to use those, but I got impatient waiting 14 minutes for a burn so I switched to the Taiyo Yuden 4x DVD-R at NCIX ($38-ish for 100) and burn them at 8x.

Yeah I have some Taiyo Udens as well.. great discs and $38 for 100 is a good deal... but damn you can't wait 15mins to burn 4.3Gigs worth of data? You're hardcore.

I don't mind burning at 4x since I can browse RFD and post like right now while burning.

Although the TY's from NCIX are rated at 4X, you can easily and reliably burn faster than that. I should qualify that statement -- I can burn at 12X using a BenQ 1620 burner. I've used BenQ's utility QScan to verify that Tracking Errors and Focus Errors are within acceptable limits at 12X , plus I've also used the 2 eye's, 2 ears test --- ie. I've watch some video's I copied and they've had no visible/audible errors.

Considered lower quality.

Don't concern yourself with other brands -- just buy TY and don't even look at anything else ( sounds like I am talking about your wife/girlfriend - just look at her and no other woman! ) :)

It seems like in here its just TY and anything else is just pure crap. =P

I wouldn't say everything else is pure crap, however you will at least never have to ask about the quality of other brands if you always buy TY :)
