Urgent!!! Laptop Crashed Need HELP.

I have a Toshiba Sattellite Pro 6100 (http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,107183,00.asp) . I normally don't turn off, I just close the lid and it automatically goes on StandBy. The security i have is as soon as you open the lid it ask for a password. Yesterday I tried to do just this but it won't boot into windows. It says there is a

system32\drivers\ntfs.sys
and
system32\drivers\isapnp.sys

file missing. The instruction it gave was to insert the system (xp) disc and type R to repair it. I tried doing that but it did not work. So I decided to format the drive and reinstall xp fresh. Unfortunately this did not work. As soon as i finished installing a fresh copy of XP and I try to restart, everything works fine. But if i turn if off for a few hours, the same errors pops up. I restored the entire system THREE times. I am getting really frustrated trying to fix this problem.

Please tell me it's something simple like a defective HD or memeory. Your help is very much apprectated

could very easily be both. I've found that, normally, it is memory that causes this problem. That's not 100% in all cases though, so test both.

Sounds like a virus. The XP repair feature never worked for me for anything so I dont even use it anymore. :|

What you can try is format ALL your drives, find the HD you have and google for a low level format utility for your HD.

When your ram starts to go bad it also cause these errors. So try a new/working stick of ram.

Sitting at the same machine right now, try a power cycle, remove the battery and AC and hold the power button for 15 seconds, short of that its a corrupted OS and being it is a Toshiba you have a recovery cd (actually with the 6100 there is either 3 or 5 cd's) that will reload the factory image.

I formatted it 3 times. Everytime i installed a new copy of XP it automatically formatted the drive first

I guess i have to buy one of the two (HD or memory). What do you guys think i should go for first. Don't want to spend money for what i dont' need

No it did it automatically, I guess that's another thing i have to try. You guys said a program could be downloaded to do that?

Sorrry missed that you reloaded 3 times, did you try with the recovery cd's? Just to see how that responds

Yes, but it won't do anything. it just tries to boot and comes back to the same error

Try using scandisk. That part of the drive may be worn out.

the problem i have is when i have it running, everything works fine. But if i turn if off for a while and try switching on again, that's when the error happens. My question i guess is, if it was a bad HD, would'nt it give problem all the time and not just work sometimes?
