I would appreciate some advice regarding a situation with my network setup. A couple years ago I purchased a Netgear MR814 Wireless B router with a Netgear MA101 USB Wireless Adapter. A few months back it stopped working and I have just setup my home network have the computers wired to the router.
In a couple of months I am thinking of getting a laptop and I would like to be able to go wireless. I am assuming that either the router is in need of an upgrade or the usb adapter is dead. Based on the research on this forum I decided to try a PCI wireless adapter and I purchased a D-Link DWL-G510.
After installing the card per the instructions I cannot obtain a connection to the wireless network. Windows XP seems to recognize existence of a wireless network, but I cannot get a connection to the network.
The message I get is "Wireless Connection Unavailable"
I have gone through the admin setup via http://196.168.0.1 and assigned everything per the manual e.g. adding the wireless card and nothing seems to work. The utility from D-Link recognizes the network name
Since using the new PCI adapter is still not connecting to the network I assume there is no choice but to upgrade the router. Is there anything else that I should consider?
Based on the information on this forum the ideal choice is between a D-Link or a Linksys router. With the D-Link PCI card should I be looking at a D-Link router or can I go with a Linksys without issues.
I am interested in getting the Linksys WRT54G. The model that comes with the speedbooster is about 20 - 30 bucks more. Is there any value to this feature or is it just a marketing ploy to get you to spend more.
Any advice would be appreciated.
