I just checked on a japanese online store for the followings
1/100 STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
HG 1/144 GUNDAM ASTRAY RED FRAME
1/144 GUNDAM Mk-2 + FLYINGARMOR
1/100 DESTINY GUNDAM

Sub Total: 6720yen
Shipping (as below):
Grand Total: 6720yen + Shipping cost
Delivery method & cost(estimated):
A) SAL - 3660yen
B) AIR - 5070yen
C) EMS - 5400yen

So in total it cost me about 110 dollars for these 4 kits. Im wondering if it will be cheaper if i go to Toronto to buy them (i live in ottawa) or it will be better off if i just buy them from Japan.

gotta think about customs and duty tax... that might add A LOT to your bill...

if i declare it as a gift and it's under 50 dollars do i still have to pay the custom? The shipping is uninsured anyways

Umm, tough questions because it involves a number of variables. CCRA has changed the way that packages from outside N/A are to be packaged. Does this shop know about the new regulations? Also duty and customs can be ALOT. What is the customs clearance charge by the shipper(Fedex).

i recommend buying them here locally instead of going to that trouble to ship it.

Check if you can find it here: http://motioncruise.com/freeship.html

Free shipping to Canada and the guy offers fantastic customer service. Answers emails on the same day and packs your stuff like fine china. I bought my Eva Soul of Chogokin from him and I would highly recommend him.

well you wont declare it..its up to the seller to do that. even if they did do it ccra can still open the parcel and apply taxes. then based on who handles the delivery you will also pay a handling fee ranging from $5 to over $20

on the flip side you may not find those kits in toronto and if you do they may end up being the same price or more if you just imported it yourself.

btw your price for the 4 kits seems quite good.

the seller told me he can declare w/e i want, and it's true 2 of the kits are just relesed in japan so u cant really buy them in Toronto yet. how would the custom know how much a gundam model kit costs even if they open it? I dont think a lot of Canadians know much about gundams

here where you can buy in Ottawa
http://www.modeledom.com/cgi-bin/index.pl?token

as for where to buy it, it's up to you,

if you buy it from Asia (HK/TW/JP) it's always almost cheaper. However shipping those will be a PITA and expensive. If you hit custom and they start charging you, you'll end up with pretty much the same price you get if you buy it here.

Though you maybe lucky and not get into any trouble with customs

OUCH that stores expensive. If you can come to Toronto to get them, just wait until Smartmaple gets them in stock, depending which shipping method you want to use, it'll probably take just as long for them to get it...

They SHOULD be under 20 (under 25 for sure). But I just visited Smartmaple today, and their selection was very limited (I'll check again tomorrow or a bit later today)

... you expect Smart Maple to have Gundams kits...
...

Just do what I used to do, get friends and family that are going to Hong Kong to bring back them. So much cheaper if they are going back anyways.

Well a year or two ago they had everything I wanted (MG Freedom, MG Wing Ver Ka, MG Wing Zero Custom), but I guess since the person in charge of the Gundam Models is an idiot and stocks all the models that people don't want, they don't stock as much of the good ones now since they need to get rid of the others first....
