View Full Version : What Brand and Style of Jeans Does Everyone Wear?
Justin

I went shopping for jeans on the weekend and some cost $30 while others cost over $150. There are also so many different styles. For the last few years i have been wearing wide leg jeans from Warehouse One and they cost $30. I ended up buying 2 pairs of low rise, straight leg, Lee Dungarees in 2 different washes. They were regular $50 on sale for about $35
So, what brand and style of Jeans does everyone wear and what do they cost? Is there are difference between the quality of $50 jeans and $150 jeans?

I wear whatever looks good and is reasonably priced. I stay away from wide cut jeans and for that matter...anything exceptionally tight. I find industry and o'neil make some nice stuff...some of it, specifically industry, is trash.

for the most part denim is a pretty tough fabric as it is... that being said, some of the really cheap jeans (IE zellers) will probably fade easier/lose colour, especially if they're dark to begin with.

ahh... I go for the straight cut with some looseness in them. I need the looseness... i dont look good in tight jeans.

You obviously have not taken a course in marketing. You should have gone to harvard business school. humans are social climbers and are always looking for status. simply make a brand more expensive than the others and that will confer social status on the wearer.

Agreed. that's why I like Buffalo's for comfort and style. Parasuco's are all right but WAAY too overpriced as a brand name.

It's not about expensive or not, but there are jeans that will last longer because they are made better which usually cost more. Nothing to do with social status etc. Just quality jeans.

For expensive jeans, you're paying for the exclusivity (they don't make nearly as many pairs as Levi's), for the distressing (most designer jeans are hand-distressed, which makes them one of a kind), recognizability, and despite what many people want to think, quality. Whether you feel comfortable paying that much more money to wear something many people recognize is not the issue, nor is it my concern. At the risk of sounding too gay, the cut of jeans can make you look taller, slimmer, and show off your ass. I'm not going to preach that all expensive jeans do this, because they don't, and many cheaper ones do too.
You'll usually find that many, not all higher priced jeans use higher-quality denim than the cheaper ones. Club Monaco jeans come to mind; their denim is light and flimsy and not even worth the outlet prices. You'll most definitely hear many many people arguing their $50 jeans are just as good, and I must agree to an extent, clothes are clothes. But I'm perfectly happy paying more for what I consider to be the added quality and the inherent status (however little or stupid you think this might be).

I have a pair of Club Monaco jeans that are great. I prefer light and flimsy in the hot summer over thicker jeans and they were well worth the outlet price around $25.
My other pair of jeans I like is a pair of Guess jeans I got for $30 US at the outlet. Faded, with whiskers etc.
I think you can definetly find some decent looking jeans for < $50.

My jean collection.
5 pairs of 7's
2 pairs of energie's
2 pairs of Nudie's
2 Pair of True Religion's
1 pair of Diesel's
1 pair of Da'Mage's
1 pair of Antik's
1 pair of J.Lindeberg
1 pair of Chip and Pepper's
1 pair of Zegna's
and I have a few pairs of crap jeans.. I don't wear my 7's at all anymore, I find the wayy to played out. Pretty much these days I only wear Nudies (2 pairs of Regular Ralph Dry Selvage) and True Religion jeans (Joey Destroyed, and Joey Super Destroyed), I use my Diesels (Clerby 82L) every now and then since they are really really confortable. And I bought a pair of Antiks a few weeks ago which I love.
These days, I like jeans that are real low, and real destroyed, and look very different. Thats pretty much why I wear my Nudies (pretty much every day). I like the idea of Selvage denim, and "creating" your own jean.
Right now, i'm waiting for the mens Victoria Beckham's Rock & Republic jeans, and I'm eyeing a pair of Levis Vintage orange Tabs I saw at Holt Renfrew.

My jeans come from Tommy Hill and Gap when they're on sale. I only wear relaxed, sometimes a little baggy. I find that most styles at other places are way too fitted. I'm on the conservative side, no funky designs or distresses, just plain for me. That Versace one someone posted above is something I would never wear. Although I'm comfortable with my sexuality, I do not want to be misjudged.

I prefer American Eagle: low rise with slight flare or boot cut.
Personally, I don't think it's worth spending a lot of money on denim, just because the styles are very trendy and don't last very long in terms of being fashionable. For example, the people who were wearing the jeans with the harsh bleach streaks on them... that's like the acid wash jeans trend in the 80s.

I like semi/demi-flared jeans or bootcuts. I really don't like jeans (or pants in general) that won't go over (around) my shoes.
Although I am not rich, price is not really an issue (haha mostly because I don't step into really expensive stores anyway). My favourites are Diesels because their cuts fit me really well. Also, when I go shopping for jeans, it's the wash that catches my eye (and of course subsequently the style/cut). I really like the faded washes and those with scratches and whiskering, so for me, Diesel usually has what I want. To each his/her own, right?

The fit/material of diesel/engerie jeans are better then gap or levis. Zara has nice jeans but dont last long. Guess its what u pay is what u get....

Works for me.
I'm not going to spend more than $50.00 for a pair of Jeans except Carhartt.

I think I'm getting the point of this thread...
Point #1: 95% of couture jeans look like crap.
Point #2: 95% of big box retailer jeans look like crap.
Point #3: Cruel Angel obviously has a lot of money. Or lives off Kraft Dinner. Or his parents :)
Wear what fits you best and is within your budget. And, adding my own two cents... nobody looks good in baggy "urban" wear, acid wash, white denim, $29 Levis Orange Tabs, and cut off denim shorts.

Well he does have a point. You have gone past the point of "style". Now you are just buying them because of the fact that they have a high price tag and its something that you are able to obtain with ease. Those jeans look GREAT, but its nothing I would spend 200+$ on and nothing im unable to find in a similar style. Gap has some comparable looking ones and none of them are over 100$.
Btw 90% of my jeans are gap, my fave type is Loose fit.

I own 2 pairs of Regular Ralphs and they are my favourite cut, you can find the Raw Selvage Denim ones at TNT in hazleton lanes, and Holt Renfrew on Bloor. TNT, Holt's on bloor, and Due West probably have the best selection of Nudies jeans in Toronto. I'm into my 4th month wearing my first pair of regular ralphs and i'm lovin em, they are really coming along very well. Check out

You have no idea what your talking about, it's not about how much I spend. It's about having the jeans I like, a jean can be 30 dollars, or a jean can be 300 dollars, if i like it, i'm gona buy it. For the styles of jeans you like, i'm sure you can find a comparable style, for the jeans I like I can't. Different strokes for different folks. I don't buy jeans cause of their price tag or label, i could honestly care less, you don't see me running out to buy a 2000 dollar pair of Dolce's just cause they are the flavour of the month.

What do you mean you cant find a comparable style? Do you mean in terms of the material/cut/wash/colour?
Id also like to state that this is the first time ive heard of this "NUDIE" brand so fill me in.

Alot of people talk about things that they have no clue about. First your telling me, i'm buying jeans because of the price tag. Then you go off saying you can find jeans that would be in the 200 dollar price range in a comparable style for much less, at the GAP even! This is how i know, you have no idea what your talking about.
In terms of material/cut/wash/colour your not gona find a gap jean with the same quality as a Diesel Jean. Just putting them on, and you'll see a difference. But then again, that is if that is what your looking for, if your not looking for a better fit, or know what to look for in a better fit your not gona know the difference.
If this is the first time you've heard of Nudie, thats pretty much all i need to know. If you've never herd of Nudie, you arn't really into jeans. Simple as that, its like saying you know something about cars, but you've never herd of a Pagani Zonda or a Bugatti Veyron.

No, you're wrong. You ASSUMED I had no idea what I was talking about, when infact I do. I never defined "STYLE" in any of my posts did I? I gave a very vague description if I did..
Now id like to clear it up. By saying style, I meant the same material, look/color/texture/whiskers/whatever and feel. I see your point now though.
Just because Ive never heard of this brand called "Nudie" doesnt classify me as someone who doesnt know about jeans or "INTO" jeans. Im very much a mall shopper and "INTO" jeans. Ive never seen this brand in any stores at the Eaton centre or Yorkdale. No one talks about it at school and im 70% postive that if I were to go up to someone and ask them, they wouldnt know.

there was article in today's star about jeans so i found this thread to be highly appropriate. the reporter was talking about the lengths she goes through to find the right pair of jeans, price be damned! its all about the fit, quality of denim, and styling (this probably applies more so to women then men).

Exactly which is what i was trying to clear up in my previous post. I dont go outside of the Eaton centre/yorkdale when shopping so I wouldnt know about them. I dont know about "Seven Jeans" either. All jeans look the same to me. If I saw someone wearing nudie jeans i would have assumed it was gap/parasuco etc. I only know the outrageously famous brands/stores that I observe inside. I dont go outside and take a walk downtown. Heck do we even sell nudie jeans in Toronto>? If there is a certain location I most likely would/will have never seen it in my life.

yeah! Hopefully mine come out just as good as his did. Some of the Nudie jeans do some prewashed, there are more than a dozen washes in the Regular Ralphs and alot come out really distressed and look similar to that. And if regular ralph isn't your cut, nudies got everything from your classic pencil taperd tight jean from the 80's to your super relaxed jean. Check out the collection on their page.
http://nudiejeans.com/collection/collection.php
Also forgot to mention Caban on Queen St also carries a collection of nudies, it's not a big collection, TNT in yorkville probably has the best in terms of different styles, Bloor St Holts has alot of the more expensive Limited edition ones, and Due West on Queen has a nice selection as well, including the t's and shirts.

Well you obvious expert, what is your definition and limit of being "INTO" jeans? Is your defintion of being "INTO" jeans what youve just said? Well sorry you hardcore-into-jeans-person. Sorry that I have not met your requirements to be classified as an "INTO" jeans person by not knowing the difference between an 8 OZ and a 12 OZ denim. I consider myself "INTO" jeans whether you wanna classify me as a consumer or an "INTO" jeans person.
If we were argueing about pc gaming and wha tnot, I could easily sit here claim that im so "INTO" gaming because I know the whole storyline about halflife 2 and have a pretty good computer, but im not going to, WHY?
Everyone has their definition of "INTO/HARDCORE" in certain areas. Sometimes someones limits can differentiate from another persons, and In this case your defintion has greatly outweighed mine.
But you CANNOT sit there and state that im not "INTO" jeans and classify me as a consumer just like I cant sit here and say that you arent INTO gaming (which i dont know and dont care). We all have our defintions and limits. Dont be so analytical.

Edited to add: I have a pair of Santana low-rise jeans that I bought from Costco for $20. It has a nice faded look at the centre line of each leg, that gives them a nice enough look. I'm pleased with them; spending less on fashion just means being able to spend more on electronics. Nevada ones can also be nice. As are the ones from the Jean One Warehouse. I love that you can get a longer leg length there, actually, compared to the regular leg length only at some stores.

i have so many pairs of jeans, im embarrassed sometimes.. although i usually rotate between 3 or 4 pairs.
- Gap: 5 pairs (well, i work there, so they're cheap. all low-rise bootfit, i wear no other fit)
- Tommy Hilfiger: 2 pairs
- Hollister: 1 pair
- Silver: 1 pair (canadian company!)
- Manager: 1 pair
- Buffalo: 1 pair
- American Eagle: 1 pair
- Hash Jeans: 1 pair
all of them were purchased for under $50 CAD AFTER taxes.
im waiting to buy a pair of dark, simple, plain 501s, or their low-rise bootcut fit (i forget model number). if i had the $, i'd get a pair of nudies.
these nudies look so damn awesome, wish i had a pair like that:

the thing with cheaper jeans is they fit like crap. im skinny, so i hate wearing baggy stuff coz it just looks like im swimming in them, and in contrast, makes me look even SMALLER coz the jeans are so damn big. if cheap jeans had better fit i'd have no problems paying $30 for jeans regularly.

yup, they're quite nice. a bit pricey at regular price, but on sale, for around $80, they're some of the better jeans for cheap. the denim enthusiasts at a forum i visit suggest the 1969 line for their price.
some 1969s are even selvedge!
though all the newer ones are low-rise, so if you're not a fan of the lower fitting jean, they're not for you.

I have:
2 Pairs of PDC LTD (Before quality went to *****)
1 Earnest Sewn Hutch, slim bootcut jeans, for my days where i wanna feel metro.
Haven't touched these jeans in about 7 months though. I have become a raw denim junkie which includes:
Nude RRDS (6 Months wear, decent wallet mark, but still needs lots of work), nice raw jeans but a lil over price for what they are.
Oni Reds (Japanese Brand) - Trying to break them in right now.
Flatheads 3003 (Japanese Brand) - Probably won't get to wear these till next year
Prefer bootcut or straight legged jeans. Never been a fan of the main stream Rock Republic / Sevens brands, prefer the more low key look - Jus because you spent 200+ on your jeans doesn't mean you have to look like you did. Like the fact that not too many people in Toronto are wearing Japanese brands so I think I will lean towards that for future purchases.

Did i reply on thsi thread already? but here goes again
I wear american eagle jeans (low rise, straight) dark wash. I choose this style because I don't like the extremes of too skinny or too baggy. straight leg is just right - skinny enough to breathe. + Goes well with pretty much anything :). Price is good at $29-49 (I take advantage of sales, 15% coupon, clearance + free shipping etc ;)). Also, it's somewhat soft so it's comfortable.

honestly.. a lot of ppl said this already but i just have to put my input.. why the hell are u bumping a what? 5 month old thread just to brag about your jeans.. with the stupidest logic "cus they cost a lot more" LOL

From what you said at here, I agree on Cruel Angel. You are not really "into" jeans, cuz you don't even have enough knowlege about the denim industry.
I own about 15 pairs of Diesel, 10 pairs of True religion, 5 pairs of 575, 5 pairs of R&R, and some 20 pairs other barnds include Antik, energie, Swen, Evisu, etc. I cannot even say I'm "into" jeans, I only can classify I'm a super fan of jeans.
when somebody says he's really into something, that means he's really good at it. Like a person says he's very into cars, but cannot even see the difference between a BMW330i and a M3, that will make me laugh, and I'll never believe that person in anything, cuz he's not telling the truth about himself.

Ugly. I'm pretty sure most females would think so also. TOO loud. What made you buy it? The fact that it says "John Galliano" in huge letters across so you can show it off when your shirt goes up? Or are you going to try to sound wholesome and say it is because of some magical process in its making or its farfetched origin of the material?
Didn't get much sleep last night, everything is pissing me off, I'll stfu now.

If I wanted to show off a brand name underwear, wouldn't you think I'd pick something more well known than Galliano? You don't even know what that print is, and your gona criticize me on my buying decision? Do I stike you as somebody who buys stuff to try and impress others? I buy stuff I like, and you know what, the actual fabric is really nice. But i've bought dsquared underwear for just as much, that I can honestly say aren't as nice as the fabric in these. Again, I could really care less, if it's cool and I like it I'll buy it.

I'm still up, so here I go. What you said was totally expected, as it is just the same argument you've used in other arguments on other threads. And yes, you DO strike me and a lot of others that are you are, in fact, someone who would buy stuff to try and impress others. Hell, or even say stuff to make yourself sound so much like "the real deal" or that you know your stuff (like the time your attempt to give Dior jean fitting info that are SO off). So what print IS it? Why does it hit close to home for you? What does it have to do w/ you? Its great to know you've also bought DSquared underwear, but really, we can care less; so please, don't try to use your counter argument as a springing board to boasting your online ego. I'll go to bed now.

i agree.. im all for great looking stylish clothing. But sometimes these people are just clothing snobs that try to big up this kinda lifestyle.
It somehow reminds me of all those fashion people that everyone makes fun of.. eg. devil wears prada, ugly betty.

what satisfaction do you get from leaving sarcastic coments on other people's threads? do you only wear that underwear out, when others are wearing R&R's? 1 is underwear, 1 is denim . don't equal them. and from this quote i can tell you r showing off u r rich or sth.? B*LL S*IT!

what r u talkin about? John Galliano is well known for making fashionable underwear in his collection on Paris or Milan runway. and your JG underwear is just a newspaper print from 07s/s...nothing much to be loud of. it would be cool if u wear outside of the jeans...or just the underwear walking downtown Toronto.
