I hear 'Taka' Steak & Sushi in PEEL somewhere is AMAZING..

They've got pictures of like 50 celebrities (I've heard.. I've never been convinced to go, I don't like raw fish)

So good they only open like 2 or 3 days a week, and are usually FULL of people that 'appreciate such excellent food' as my friend puts it..

I've never been, so don't ask me, but if its only open 2 days a week and has been there over 10 years, they must be good

I just googled Taka Steak and Sushi. Apparently, it's in Brampton and it's also closed now. Can anyone confirm that it's closed?

Well anyways, for cheap/decent sushi, I go to Umi Sushi and Hinote Sushi. Hinote is a bit more expensive, but have better food overall. You can find them on foodpages.ca to see how far away they are from you.

Sushi One at the Mavis plaza is also opening soon.

It's in Brampton and it's been closed since May. Lousy location for a restaurant - on the east side of Kennedy south of Queen buried in behind a laundromat, a failed sub shop and a failed donut shop. Kinda skid row, pretty much invisible from the road. Too bad. Had tatami rooms which was kind of cool.

Before it was Taka it was Formosa which was an absolutely awesome Japanese restaurant. I still mourn it's closing.

Only other Japanese place in Brampton is Toshi, on the west side of Hwy 10, south of Bovaird, opposite the Walmart. A decent spot, but sure not local to Mississauga.

Go here: Toronto Area Sushi Society (http://www.tass.on.ca/). GTA sushi restaurant listings and reviews.

As an aside, just up the road on Kennedy here in Brampton is Falafel Garden (very good Middle Eastern food) and further up still, past Queen is Pho Peter which is my favorite Vietnamese place.

Mississauga is pretty big. What area are you in?

If you're in Meadowvale, I doubt you would wanna goto somewhere like Dundas and Dixie.

wait wait... are we talking about the Umi Sushi that opened next to Staples at Burnhampthrope?.... I sure hope not.

There's Sushi Tei (Creditview and Burnhampthrope) It's been around and expanded a few years ago. I like their food MUCH better then Umi. >.<

-decent- is something I wouldn't use to describe Umi.

I think we already had this discussion when I ranted about Umi.

Yes, your rant was several months ago on your AYCE experience. I have tried Sushi Tei and I don't find the difference to justify the higher price. For someone asking for a -cheap- and decent sushi in the first place, I doubt he will either. For Hinote Sushi, yes it is justifiable because the prices are not that much higher at lunch and they make excellent sushi.

By the way, several people in that topic that you mention thought that Umi was good(though not as good as Tei). Yes, you had a horrible experience. I think almost every sushi restaurant hands out a couple of horrible experiences once in a while, and those usually result in the loudest complaints on web forums. Anyways, he can try it out and if he doesn't like it, then he can always go to Tei.

Ya, I agree on the pricing a Tei is more then Umi, but around that area there isn't much choice. Plus the atmosphere at Tei is much better then the dimmer Umi.

I went to Umi on a Saturday night at 7-8 and it was almost empty. What does that say about the business?

Takeout there's small store that does a lot of takeout business on Confederation near Sqr1, it's the plaza with the Dairy Queen.

There's a business-looking building on the NE corner of Dixie and Eastgate Pkwy. You'll see a Domino's sign on the outside of the building. In it, theres a food court with a *** place that has decent prices for sushi. I'm not sure of the building is open 7 days a week.

Oh, also, there's Sushi Park in the Woodchester Mall on Dundas between Glen Erin and Winston Churchill. They are mainly a takeout place but also have a few stools to sit on and eat. Prices are a little lower than sit-in places and quality of sushi is a little less also.

I've personally ate at Umi too and I don't know, their sushi isn't that great.
All my friends and family agree too.

I tried UMI one time and didn't like it either.

Loblaws 6 california maki rolls are $5 and look like they have 2 inches thick worth of rice even on their ad flyers. I wouldn't try it.

There's also Wasabi near the Swiss Chalet at Hurontario. Never tried it though. Prices seemed high. Empty and the waitress seemed rude when I asked for a takeout menu.

I've been going to them off and on for many years. They are pretty consistent with their quality. The fish is good but not as much variety. If you live nearby, its definitely worth going to instead of the others to save time.

My favorite is their rolls lover that gives you 30 pcs of rolls for $15 plus tax.

Pho Peter used to be Pho Huang until about 6-7 months ago. Peter is the little guy who owns it. Great spot.

It's on the west side of Kennedy north of Queen in a strip mall that has a Coffee Time in it - just north of Taco Bell and Sonny's burger joint. New Chinese place going in right beside Peter's.

Better name still. There's another Vietnamese place at Queen and Rutherford in the plaza with the Arby's. Pho King Noodle Soup. I happened to drive by as they were putting this new sign up for the name change and just about wet my self.

Is it in that Creditview plaza or whatever it's called?

The one with Mcdonald, Pharma Plus, Subway and Food basic

For all those who ranted on Umi, give'em another chance and go eat there again.

I've been there three times and the experiences were quite good.

If you like the sushi @Loblaws there's no way that Umi can't beat them.

Just my 2 cents.

Sushi Tei is at the plaza with Quizno's and a No Frills.
