A few weeks back I got around to fiddling with my Compaq Presario K2 500 PC. Problem was, if your familiar with Compaq... it has RomPaq, HD bios and cannot install Win2k or XP... not without headaches. Also no direct HD boot support... pathetic! After googling for 10mins or so... I flashed the board with a MitacVU bios and viola! Direct boot support... no HD bios... a TRUE BIOS! Popped in 512 RAM, 40GB, 4Nics, CDRW and Win2K3 Server and everything is working super dandy!

I'm very suprised how 'fast' this K2 500 is! Win2K3 Server is chugging along great... mind you it's just my test admin box.

Just my little experience with a crappy compaq that now has some new life in it. I purchased the pc from a rfd member here years ago for around $20... case was butt ugly so i chucked it... rest of parts are outfitted from 'junk' at work.

Now that was ingenious! Congrats on defeating typical Compaq crap. :)
