APC BX1000 UPS units:
Some time ago there was some very hot deals on these units. I got mine for about $70 tax in. Not bad at all. (Staples was so pi$$ed off!)
Recently, my UPS just stopped working. The overload light came on and wouldn't go away. Even with no load attached, it's pooched.
I called APC and they acknowledge that there's a problem with many of the BX series units that causes exactly this problem. Having dealt with APC many, many times before, I can easliy say they have great RMA procedures though. EDIT: It says a lot about a company when they openly admit to problems and exert reasonable efforts to correct them. APC hasn't let me down yet.
They are shipping me a new unit, a BR1000 that includes voltage trimming, and also a prepaid label to send the old one back.
If anyone else cashed in on the good deals earlier this year or late last year, you may want to call APC and see what they'll do for you. If your unit is functioning properly, they may be able to tell if yours if from an affected batch by using the serial number. If not, request a replacement anyway because it's a very common problem and can happen any time. For the hassle, you get a better unit that trims voltage up or down.
