the FS all-in-one is better but i think that bb doesent have 90 day warranty where as the fs one does. so id prolly get the bb one cuz it has 1 year warranty

well, i did say FS had a "similar" deal as BB...;) so my mistake... BB has the "better deal" if ur lookin for more ram...

(sorry i didn't actually take the time to compare the specs but generally, they're both VERY similar in specs... and also that SAME printer and LCD "pkg bundle" after MIRs... )

The warranty at Best Buy on the computer is 90 Days, same as Future Shop. If you go into the individual components, you can see this.

The big difference is the RAM in the systems. I got the FS one, since there is no BB in my area, so bringing it back would be a huge pain in the ass for me if I got it from BB. I will probably go into FS and see if I can get the extra RAM thrown in, but I doubt it.

Another difference is you can earn Aeroplan points at Future Shop, but not at Best Buy.

Just noticed that the BB deal is only a printer and not an all in one. The computer itself individually is $100 more at BB, which would account for the extra RAM.

The CPU of BB destop suppport Hyper-Threading Technology, I bought one for my friend yesterday. It also has both DVD-RW and CD-ROM.

The warranty of the LCD has only one year and the response time of the LCD is 25 ms

yeah, so i guess in the END, both "deals" from FS/BB are actually pretty much the same (or similar).... ;)

FS: less ram, but AIO printer
BB: more ram, "reg. printer"

so now its just really personal pref. of where to buy it from... ;)

but like movieking said, u can get aeroplan points at FS...

These things are moving like hotcakes at BB, soldout at Markville and Scarborough Town location. So if you want to grab this deal you have to wait for the next shipment and get there EARLY!

Future Shop one semes to be refurbished, not sure about BB one.
HP Intel Pentium 4 519J 3.06GHz Computer (A1020N) - Refurbished
This refurbished HP Pavilion A1020N is a fully loaded computer that offers all the features you need to run all of your favourite applications. It features a 533MHz bus, 512MB DDR memory, a large 200GB hard drive and a versatile dual layer 16X DVD+/-RW with Lightscribe and CD-ROM drive.

Both are refurbished.

I would get the BB one if I didn't have to pay the shipping charges if I wanted to return it (like Dell), but unfortunately, I would have to, so I guess that is out of the question.

Has anyone sent stuff back to BB and had to pay shipping? From what the CSR said, it seems like whether I wanted to return it regardless of it I just didn't want it or it was not working properly, I would have to pay shipping. If it didn't work, I would get refunded the initial shipping cost (which is usually free shipping), but I would be responsible for the shipping charges to send it back.

Is this correct? The part about having to pay shipping for a defective item sounds wrong to me.

FS comes with a CD ROM as well, whereas BB does not appear to (although redflagcountry seems to indicate it does....does not mention it online). Not a big difference but another difference nonetheless :cheesygri

is the bb's P4 better than Fs's?

519J@FS
530J@BB

I believe the P4 519J is 3.06Ghz and the P4 530J is 3.0Ghz with Hyperthreading.

My friend just picked up the display model for an additional 40 bucks off.

So the computer, mouse and keyboard were 24 hours old, and the monitor was new.

hyperthreading = GOOD?

is it better to have the extra .06GHZ or the Hyperthreading?

If I understand correctly, the functionality of hyper threading is to allow multiple process run efficiently, each process is given a unique thread number that does not over-lap with others. This makes the CPU work more efficiently. I guess it is definitely worth going for HT rather than 0.06GHZ which means nothing in terms of speed differential. Just my opinion.

hm..... 0.06GHz ~= 60MHz vs. HT feature....

of course HT! :D

u can in general "multi-task" more efficiently... (like another RFDer had already mentioned briefly above).... and that extra 60 MHz is like nothing nowadays

You don't understand correctly.

Hyperthreading makes one CPU look like two to the OS. The two pretend CPUs share all the computational units, so only one can actually be operating at one time. But modern processors are often waiting for memory fetches. While one pretend CPU is waiting, the other can be making progress.

Windows XP Home doesn't exploit this capability, as far as I know (I'm not an MS Windows user). In general, exploiting requires an OS that can handle multiple CPUs (XP Pro can, but XP Home is intentionally crippled).

Some realistic workload are actually slowed down by HyperThreading Apparently this is due to increased pressure on the caches.

Ask if they have display models they are willing to sell, but ask for a new monitor if you can.

Looks like HP is screwing me on the rebate. I got a letter today saying that I didn't include the serial number from the box of the monitor when I know for a fact that I did. I took a photocopy of everything before I sent it off, and tripled checked to make sure everything was included, and had my wife check.

So really, there is nothing that I can do, since I don't have the number for the box since I already sent it in. Is there anything I can do? I HATE THESE FREAKING REBATES!
