Wouldn't it be fragile? Unless they use titaninum casing and structural reinforcement? With such miniaturization I can't imagine there's room for added strength, but what do I know ;-)

Yup, no more iPod mini. I am a little underwhelmed by this too. It'll sell like crazy of course and I do want one in a way but it's a little much and a little lacking. Had it been $249CAN for 6GB or 8GB then I think it'd be better. I'll keep my 20GB for now, until they announce a video iPod.

SWEET.
I never liked the Mini. This is now truly deserving of the moniker, portable music player. You can slip this into your shirt pocket and not have it sag.
iTunes 4.9 was oly 24MB. iTunes 5 has bloated to 33MB (for Windows). Better be worth it!

What's the rumors on the video one anyways? I keep hearing that it's never going to happen in the near future... and consequently I'm saving up for the Creative Zen Vision.

Just installed iTunes 5 for XP and what is immediately apparent to me is that they ripped the GUI from an Longhorn skin made by the community enthusiasts.
So blatant.
I prefer the brushed look anyhow.

Well, Jobs argues that, currently, there is no legal content to download other than maybe music videos from the iTunes music store. I am sure he is working feverishly with the movie/tv studios to try and get paid content for an iTunes Video Store. Otherwise, there is a legit problem with video. Video won't look good on a small iPod screen and those Windows Media portable devices by Archos, Creative, etc are too big to be considered portable in an iPod sense. It'll happen - I wish it was here now. I personally don't mind wathcing episodes of family guy on an iPod screen. In fact, Linux on iPod has video working. It's in the early stages and lacks compression so there is a slight pause in the video every 3-5 seconds which makes it really really annoying. The iPod nano has solid state memory which may be better for video but it has a smaller screen so we can scratch that. Creative is in financial trouble though, aren't they?

basically it's a merge of the iPod Shuffle (thin), iPod Mini (small dimension) and the regular iPod (colour). for $249 it's directly replacing the Mini's entry price point. i'm guessing they couldn't (yet) squeeze larger capacity flash memory into the units.
did anyone check out the black one the have available as well?

The Black one is sharp, that's for sure. If I could get the 4GB for $200 I'd be on the check out screen right now. But, at $300 its a little high for me. I understand why its so expensive. 4GB flash memory and a high res colour screen are not cheap. I don't think they could even sell it for $200 but I'll wait a year and see if video comes, then I'll decide. By then the price on the nano will have lowered.

Placed an Order for a 4GB nano with arm band.
Its alot smaller then a mini (size is very important to me) and it has significantly better battery life then my first gen Ipod mini.
I wanted a seperate ipod for my car anyway and since I can use the old mini with my car I'm happy to replace it with this one.
I'll let you guys know how it is when it arrives :)

blah I'm a consumer *****.. buying one of these and selling my mini.
I like the fact the mini was so sturdy, but i'm just to used to having a flash based mp3 player.. this is what I wanted all along.
Does anyone know if the product car plan pertains to this one too?

Sold. Piano black, but I'll wait to order the armband. Can't wait. Anybody want to buy a 3G 10 gig iPod? I'll let it go for $125, with Firewire cable, one Speck case, headphones, Belkin TuneDock In-Car Holder, Nyko Universal Car mount, Belkin Car Charger (not kit) and AC adapter. $150 and I'll include the dock as well . . .

If I can sell my mini I will buy it for sure.
Pennyarcade: No ETA as of yet. I expect it to arrive by early/late next week.

unfortunately, I got an ipod color 20gb just last month for my bday. I would jump on this if I didn't have the ipod.
Not that I don't appreciate the ipod as a present! :D

Those things are pretty drool-worthy.. I've already got a 40GB iriver and 5gig rio carbon though, so I'd better hold off.. Tough!!! Hmm.. Maybe I can return the rio to costco ;)
