I discovered his show rather by accident when I worked my first night job. Just scanning the frequency and came across Talk 640 and it was a life saver!

He's entertained me many a nights. It's great for those who have sedentary listless jobs like data entry.

Mostly good for a good laugh, but sometimes can be very revealing and insightful.

He's been on 640 for many years. I tune in every night but a lot of times his shows are really boring. 640 is known for shows like that. Friday they have the Ricahrd Sarret show and Saturday they have A View from Space.

I used to listen to him a lot more when he was on full time. Now he's just on weekends and I can't stand George Nory. The absolute worst host for that show was some lady. Can't remember her name.

Barbara Simpson. She was replaced by Art on the weekends, but in the past were jockeying the main slot for a while.

I hope he comes back full time too, because I'm not a real big fan of George Noorey either. The whole appeal of the show is his voice. It's hard to describe, but it's very somber like.

BTW, is there a program I can use to schedule to record streams? I also listen to some other science centric podcasts like Seti's "Are we alone" and Explorations with Michio Kaku which are both available to download; CTC is unfortunately a subscription based. Boo!

That's it! Barbara Simpson. I stopped listening to that show because of her. Art used to do it all full time but then he retired because of there was a some legal issue regarding his son and being sexually assaulted by some man. He returned like a year later to just weekends.

I know you can download more of these shows on newsgroups. I don't know what to use to record but I'd be very interested.

George Noorey isn't bad. He doesn't get nitty gritty with his questions and tends to placate to his guests, but it's still better than the craptastic shows out there.

Art has retired on numerous occassions only to come back later. I think this is his 3rd retirement, and it's for his back pains, or some such.

The more controversial the topic, the better it is, usually.

I'm going to see if I can find him on newsgroups.

I used to listen to him all the time at midnight in bed with the radio earphones on. The show goes til 5am and most nights I'll stay up that late if it's interesting. Back then my morning shifts start at 6am so I had to be out the door by 5:30am so needless to say I didn't sleep much

But yeah, after he left and George and Barbara took over I lost interest. There's something about Art's voice as well that just pulls you in and his voice lends credibility to what he says for whatever reason...

You know what' I'm talking about. It's the voice.

I have several of his shows from a torrent download which was called "best of art bell"

I'm sure he's the cause of many people's sleepless nights. If they weren't nocturnals, they are now.

Heh, I used to listen alot but the commercials annoyed the hell out of me.

One show i'll NEVER forget was one recently after the big east coast blackout. He had a correspondent who was investigating the source of it. The correspondant was essentially saying:

"I'm outside of Ottawa, in a town called Kan-Ata. Located in Kan-Ata, is an underground Canadian Military base, where it is rumored that the cause of the blackout started here. Sources say that they were testing a Tesla coil which had a massive power surge and blacked out the entire east coast . . . etc."

I almost pissed myself with laughter when I heard that!! :D

. . but you never know! Maybe it's all true . . .

Yeah, I used to listen too... I even listened to the show when he "retired" and it was George Nori(sp) and another woman doing the show.

But, it just got a bit too kooky for me...

I like George Noory as the host because he has a very good voice. Art Bell is a lot more pointed with his questions, whereas Noory goes along with mostly whatever the guest is saying and doesn't want any arguments.
I usually like to catch A View From Space with the Spaceman (Gary Bell) on Saturday nights from 9 pm till 1 am, and while some of his ideas have some merit (conspiracies and such), some of the numerology, etc. is carried a bit too far at times. Plus he tends to repeat a lot of things during the show and never has any guests on.

That's the perfect recipe for entertainment if I ever saw one.

Art is back once more. He's in Manila, Philipines. I've been catching up with this recent history, but the basic chronology is as follows:

- His wife died from one of her asmathic attacks - Art came on air next day and was very close to an on air break down.

- Apparently he's found some woman and married or at least moved in with her in Manila, where he is currently living and doing weekend shows from.

Intersting stuff. I'm truly an Art-oholic.

BTW, does Talk 640 still carry View from Space? I want to check it out.
Also check out the Phil Hendrie Show. Can usually find torrents/newsgroups downloads. He's really raucous, but that's part of his charm.

You guys should listen to Phil Hendrie

Phil Hendrie is no doubt entertaining, but he's comedy. His format is somewhat unique in that he does the voices of his guests (unbeknownst to his callers), but Coast to Coast AM does tackle serious issues. Face on Mars or Alien visitation are border line hokey/crock pot, but can you prove otherwise? The show is also open to religion, and more mundane, every day issues.

Phil Hendrie is a riot though, but he does get a little old at times. Nothing I'd lose sleep over, however.

I have been listening to Coast To Coast with Art Bell since 1996 at the time of the Hale-Bopp comet controversy. It was by accident that I found the show. I remember tuning into CKNW 980, which is a local talk radio station here in Vancouver and I didn't notice that the tuning had slightly drifted to KOMO 1000 in Washington State. Now, I was listening to a serious discussion about an object trailing a comet. While listening to the show, I find out the name of the host is Art Bell and the show is called Coast To Coast AM. I remember some nights it was hard to tune in, but eventually the show was picked up locally by CFUN 1410. I would record the show with a VCR each night, so that I could listen to it the next day. I also remember listening to the shows at work when Real Networks was archiving the show. Before his first retirement in 2000, I was listening to the show every day including the Sunday show called "Dreamland". I practically stopped listening when Mike Siegel took over and began listening again when he came back a year later. Now that he is semi-retired due to his back problems, I will try to tune in on the weekends and occassionally catch George Noory during the week. I think almost all of whats discussed is baloney, but its entertaining at the same time. I am not surprised when something is eventually debunked, such as the Dr. Jonathan Reed alien in the freezer story.

Been listening to C2C for almost 6 years, steadily losing interest in the last few years after my shifts @ work required me to go to bed @ 10pm ish. I catch the last hour on the way to work, but it always sucks.
Art Bell is the best part of the show, from his style of interviewing to his short temper and wicked radio voice. George Noory is not terrible, but he tends to let the most ludicris guests/callers drone on for ever and he just plays along with it.
The big knock against C2C is that they are sensationalists and encourage wackos to come on with an outlandish stories to drum up ratings.
Mels Hole?
Prophet Ya'wai (sp?)
John Titor? (my favourite, buts thats a whole different story :) )

Overall it's entertainment, and 'Ghost to Ghost' is fricken awesome!

You can get archives of the show, especially the nuttier ones on newsgroups. I have most, if not all the Michio Kaku interviews. Recently Noorey did an interview with Dan Akroyd. For some reason, I find it more interesting to hear about celebrities who harbour support for Aliens or extraterrestial intelligence. It's sort of like, they're risking being labeled a crackpot but they're a big star so who they don't care about what people think.

A couple of weeks ago this dude came on saying he bought beer from one of the 9/11 terrorists, then hung up because he was afraid of being arrested. Total crank, but still funny. I can upload if someone can suggest a site for the file (under 1MB).

Anyways the problem is that his show is such crap when it comes to scientific side of things. He gets some of the most obscure people on the show and the callers are just as crazy. I doubt he himself believes any of it because he has heard so much of the bs.

So he's filling in for George Noorey tonight? I'll be sure to catch it though I have to confess not knowing what Ghost to Ghost is. His other segment called Dreamland was pretty good which I have one episode of. He interview some guy who was decrying organized religion so you can imagine the callers were livid. Ghost to Ghost is a C2C tradition with Art just like his New Year's prediction show. It's a little different this year because his calls are screened now. It should still be fun. :)

+1 lol

I've been listening since grade 10, so around 7 years now. Though it's been on/off for the last couple of years or so. Two of my good friends are C2C die-hards as well, and we always laugh at the callers that call-in and share their "psychic" abilities with Bell/Noory, especially the ones that claim they saw 9/11 before it happened, or any event in hindsight

We're also die-hard Spaceman (gary bell) fans as well, although we laugh at him a lot as well, it's all an act. Everything is a conspiracy to him...he'll relate any type of number configuration to the Illuminati....heck, he's working for 640. 6 = obvious, 6+4 = 10, ooooooooooo 10.

He's also a producer for LeafsLunch on 640 so i guess that shows he's a normal guy and not this tinfoil-wearing conspirist yahoo (Dale Gribble?) all the time. LOL and the callers that call into his show, are de-brainwashed-brainwashed and sound even more rediculous than him. I hope to god these callers aren't like this 24/7, living in constant paranoia

Hey look, it's 7/7/7 right now OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO *end of the world*

You don't have to like the person to enjoy the show. Look at Howard Stern, a total misogynist, but dare I say, some of his most loyal fans are women. Point is, Art Bell may or may not be a real dirty bastard, but his show is entertaining.
