We'll get 20 teams.
Once we're full, I'll run the automatic draft...
Make sure that you edit your pre-draft order (so that you get players that you want, and don't wind up with crappy picks).
Enjoy.

I'm already in 2 leagues so I don't think I'll join this one... but you should have a Live draft. Even if some people can't make it, Yahoo uses the preranked players.

sorry, i'm all pool-ed out, won't be making this one.
just a suggestion: 25 positions (if i read it correctly), 20 teams, equals 500 players! that's almost every single player off every team (nhl = 30 teams, with rosters between 20 and 23)
there's a deep draft, and then there's ridiculous. c'mon--who's going to pre-rank 500 players? i've done pools for a long time, and i've never seen a draft that deep. a pool of this nature requires hardcore hockey fans who could name you the third line off every nhl team--i don't think you'll find 20 guys here who could do that. . .you might want to reconsider your draft settings
good luck with your league!

Interesting point.
I guess it makes sense to drop down to 20 picks per team.
Let's go folks.... 9 more teams needed....

Still a pretty deep draft.
I just did a draft for a friend yesterday with 18 teams, and 11 roster spots. And even on that I was struggling at the end to choose the scrubs to fill out the team.
I would be interested but I'm in too many pools. And I can't stand list drafts. Someone always gets screwed. Live drafts are the main part I like about fantasy hockey.

Get 5 more people to join in.
This will get nuts people....
Lets fill this up and run the draft.
This will be an auto-draft, so 20 people will not need to sit around their respective boxs for hours picking their players...
Go edit your pre-draft order now... I'll send out an e-mail warning once we fill up the remaining 5 teams, give everyone 2 days to sort their stuff out, then run the draft.

We did a live draft last night for a league, 19 players and 20 teams. Took 1hr 45mins. But everyone was well prepared and knew who they wanted. However, the last 5 rounds were pretty slim pickings!
Make sure you don't pre-rank players that have retired!

This will be an autodraft, so we will not be spending hours in front of a computer, or ripping our hair out trying to coordinate the draft.
Good point about the rankings... make sure your players are actually playing (and haven't retired lately i.e Stevens)

Sorry for those who only recently looked at the post. It appears that the league has already filled up.
To those who signed up:
- Edit those pre-draft order. The automatic draft will take place on Sept 29 first thing in the morning. Yahoo is weird, and will have the draft results available 2 days after i flip the switch.
- I'll communicate with everyone through the hockey pool site.... so, either turn on your e-mail address, or you may miss important trade info or other important info. As an alternative measure, check the fantasy site message board.
To those of you who did not make it in time:
- Sorry folks
- Try to get into the other hockey pool posted in RFD.

Another 6 rounds? Probably at least another hour.
The first 10 rounds are easy, because you know who you want.
Its very slim pickings at the end, by round 25 I don't imagine I would even recognize names!
With 20 teams, an auto-draft is the way to go. (I think!)

Hello all.
I have told Yahoo to run the draft... it should be done by 12pm Oct3 the latest.... that tends to be an exaggeration by Yahoo so their servicing geeks can swoop in and look like heros when the draft runs early.
I will post once the draft results are available.

Although I set the league status to "ready" today, its takes a few days for the draft results to actually be available.

Plus/Minus is a classic stat.
If a player is on the ice during a goal for their team = +1
If a player is on the ice during an opponents' goal = -1

Technically, they're not allowed to be listed until they play one game in the NHL, although it seems as though there have been a number of notable exemptions - namely the exclusion of some who DID play in 03 but didn't get listed, and Sidney Crosby, who never did, but IS listed.
I've got another few that I know of that I'm going to waive, if I can sneak them by...luckily the waiver list is so long, most people won't catch some of them...
ALTHOUGH, I noticed someone grabbed M.A. Fleury...bastard...if he comes up to the NHL again, he'll be quite a bargin to grab...

NOTE: Exception is made for when team is on the powerplay or on the penalty kill. In those circumstances, +/- is not counted.

Most (if not all) teams look fairly weak. It's the result of having a fairly deep draft with 20 teams.

Have you guys noticed the disproportionate weight that goalies seem to play in this league...? The top of the league (top 5) have the hottest goalies, and except Hacker, just a mediocre team...

It is just like running backs in fantasy football. The scoring system is tilted towards them.
Your positional pool will consist of (default) 2C, 2LW, 2RW, 4D and a couple bench spots. With all of those players there you only cover just over half of your leagues default scoring categories (G, A, +/-, PPP, GWG, PIM)
With the only two goalies on your roster you have to worry about categories like W, GAA, SV%, and SO. Compared to the amount of players representing your team for each category if is heavily skewed towards goalies, which is why you need to get good goalies early. Picking up hot hands for the other positions from the WW is easy, starting quality goalies are not.
I have Luongo and Hasek and that has helped me to a 32-4-4 lead in my Yahoo public pool.
