hi all,
i'm trying to transfer a hard disk from one computer to another.
Basically from a Asus K8V Deluxe (Via chipset KT800) to an Asus A7N8X (nvidia nforce2 chipset).
I'm using windows 2000 pro and just after the loading screen, blue screen of death: Inacessible boot device.

Does this mean I have to reinstall windows 2000pro? If I have to do that, can I reintall/repair windows2000 without having to reinstall all the programs?

thanks a lot!!!
marc

i would recommend a fresh install because of the major chipset change..

Here's what I would do:

1) put the hard drive back into your Via chipset mobo;
2) boot into Win2000 and uninstall all Via ide/agp/chipset drivers;
3) use the standard Windows ide drivers;
4) install the drive on the nForce board;
5) boot into Win2000 to re-detect all of the devices.

Since the chipsets on the 'old' and 'new' mobos are from the different companies (VIA vs nVidia), it is likely you will need to repair install the OS.

I've had perfectly workable results in the past with Audit's technique above. Being rather obsessive compulsive, I usually end up with a reinstall later, but it works.

Chances are, when you boot the drive after adding it into the new computer, you're getting a

Inacessible boot device
Stop 0x 7b
right?
(c00000034)?

That's because of the HAL difference between the two computers. The best way to get around this is to do a re-install my friend. you'll have more problems down the road if you ignore it. audit's suggestion will theoretically work,on most chipsets.
