I ordered somthing costing about $100 US, shipped from the US to Canada

The seller will be shipping by DHL. www.dhl.com
Can any shipping experts tell me if I have to pay any brokerage fees or taxes for this item? If so, how much?

Do I need to tell the seller to mark it as a gift or under a certain amount (US$) for the item? (If there are those options with DHL in the states)

Thanks a lot guys

marking it as a gift and devaluing the contents is illegal. you can try and ask the seller to do this, but really now days Customs pretty much will inspect any package.

you can expect to encounter brokerage fees. you may get lucky and pass through, but you might as well expect to pay it. so you will have to pay canadian taxes + DHL's handling fee.

my *guess* is that their fee is in the range of $10+

Thanks for the reply. If the fee is $10, then I think it's ok.

I remember I got screwed by UPS when I had to pay $23 brokerage fees/ taxes for earphones that cost $30.

Not sure if it'll help, but back in July I bought a $50 US auto part from Florida and it was shipped by DHL. I wasn't charged any fees.
