I'm thinking of buying this camera from the U.S - Canon Elura 90 (http://usaphotonation.com/products.asp?product_id=11880)
It's the cheapest I have found online (if anyone else see's it cheaper, please let me know! :)
I called the CS line and the stated that they will ship to Canada for $19.99 via UPS. I inquired about duties / taxes and brokerage fees and they stated that none will be charged? Is that right?
The only thing holding me back is that I may get dinged by addtional fees that may kill the deal.
Your thoughts?

The store won't charge you anything besides the shipping fee. If the $19.99 fee is for ground shipping, you WILL get dinged by UPS for brokerage fee plus tax. If it shipped by air, then customs clearance is included in the shipping fee (I believe you still have to pay the tax, though).

See if they will ship USPS. If not, kill the deal. No deal is worth dealing with UPS's bogus rip-off charges.

Thanks guys! Really appreciated.
I called them and they said that they would only ship via UPS.
Now, another question - If i got it shipped to the U.S And had a friend bring it over, would that work?
Are the prices decent on this site? Any other camcorder worth buying?

If you bring it over the border yourself (or a friend), you'll still need to pay taxes as well as the shipping charge to your friend. It might be worth it to simply pay for UPS Expedited or Express shipping - brokerage fee is included.
It baffles my mind that so many US businesses refuse to use anything other than UPS when shipping to Canada. I've clearly explained the whole brokerage fee issue to several businesses down there (heh, I've got a boilerplate email, I've been doing it so often), but they still refuse to ship via any other method, especially USPS. But then again, what do they care? They're 250 million, we're 30 million - it's not like they're losing a lot of business.
bhphotovideo.com is down right now, otherwise I'd suggest you see how much it costs from them. You've tried Henry's here in Canada and www.cameracanada.com?

So it's a lot easier for them to stick with just one shipper instead of having a separate process that takes more time for such a small percentage of their orders.

actually USPS will also pick up orders as well...
i believe that they use UPS/Fedex is because of the tracking service. USPS has no real tracking service once it leaves the country, whereas both UPS/Fedex have an international presence and thus have a much more accurate "tracking" service.

If you upgrade to UPS Expedited/Next Day, the brokerage fees are included. So it actually works out to be not much more (if any). And you'll get it really fast as a bonus. You'll still have to pay taxes of course
Never use UPS Ground to import, the brokerage fees will likely kill any savings you are likely to get.
