I was searching threads for XPS 600 info and decided to compare your older price to what you can get today.

Your same configuration lists for $2138 right now. Not a huge difference from your price but the prices today include a boxing week discount so I would expect your price was reasonably competitive. That back to school season usually only generates deals on the low end econoboxes.

I usually find that with Dell you should always call to get a quote or two from the phone reps. If your company has a relationship with Dell then you may be able to order from their dedicated sales rep and have it shipped to work for less than the website or regular reps can get you.

For example. I got a quote for the XPS 600 from our corporate rep that I'm going to order.
Pentium D 830 3.0Ghz dual core
XP media center 2005
Dual TV Tuner with remote
2GB 667Mhz ram 2 DIMM
Basic USB keyboard
20" 2001FP LCD panel
Dual 7800GTX 256MB SLI graphics cards
500GB SATA hard drive
13 in 1 media card reader
Basic Optical USB Mouse
Dual Drive DVD-ROM and 16x DVD+-RW dual layer burner
Sound Blaster X-Fi
3yr limited warranty 3yr NBD onsite service

On the website this cost: $4537 +$24 alberta recycling tax (includes a $560 online discount and free shipping)
From the corporate sales rep, billed to my credit card but under the company customer #: $3849

The corporate rep saves me an additional $712 over and above the current online promotional boxing week price discount. That may be because the guy likes me and/or the company but it proves that the prices at Dell aren't always final.

I would have preferred to get an Athlon 64 machine but the price from Dell is good and the fact that the fan noise on the XPS 600 won't damage my hearing compared to an Athlon 64 I get from a local OEM is attractive for me. If I had unlimited funds I may have looked at a VoodooPc rig.
