We never hear about Samsung hard drives. In term of reliability, how do they compare to the competition?
My Maxtor failed today so I need a drive ASAP. :(

you'll hear varying opinions.
the samsung's are decent, they are quiet drives.
I've had no luck with seagates recently.
My Maxtor has held up nicely.
WD has gotten pretty good as of late.

I've also heard varying opinions but my last one held up perfectly until I sold it, and my current one has also never given me any problems. In terms of noise, they are excellent. In terms of performance, they are slightly under a lot of the other drives so it depends what you're looking for. For me, the noise level of these drives is second to none that I've worked with and I'm going to stick with samsung for awhile.

I've built computers with Maxtor, Seagate, WD and Samsung. All have worked well. Although I use Maxtor in my computer right now, the only drive to ever fail me in the past has been Maxtor. Could be coincidence, but I'm not sure.

recent maxtor batch have some bad sectors...
i have used WD and Seagate because and people do reply on them but i had bad experience with them, they fail all the time...
with samsung, i have no problems with them what so ever, just recently bought a hdd made by samsung again...i am content with is quality so far...
but for warranty wise, some people might think $15 more for the extra 2 yr warranty from Seagate is worth it...to me if the drive doesn't fail in the 1st year, it would last, but that is just my opinion...

I agree with that, however, curiously, my last Maxtor died 1 month before the 3 year warranty expired. Whew... close call...
