I just moved into a condo. ma question is, is it ok to blast my music? I have the Logitech z-560's, I just turn up a little bit and it's like really loud and bassy. I was wondering if it's ok to play them at normal volme.

Will the neighbor complain?

I think they will since you've got people on almost every wall of yours. Condo sucks for not being able to blast music.

put it this way.. if your neighbors cranked their music and it went through the walls, ceiling, and floor, would you be ok with it?

^yup I would
because if i turn up my music, i can't hear anything that's coming in. that's how loud ma speakers are.

it's like, when you blast your car audio in your car, can you hear other car's car audio (even if they got the bassbox)? Don't think so.

If condo rooms have concrete walls, then you might be out of luck. Sound travels in concrete VERY well. Much better than air.

condos have a rules list, ask management downstairs.

eg music nothing loud after 11pm.
no home reno after 6pm eg hammering.

Your neighbours have to get up for work, also if you make too much noise they can call the police. If too many neighbours complain over a number of months, they can band together and write a letter to management to ask you to leave for not following the tenant act.

but sometimes when the urge strikes me, i turn the volume up high on the Klipsch pro medias 4.1 and play FPS with lots of gun blasts :).

depends on the time. neighbours might tolerate loud noise in afternoons and around dinner time but mornings and bed time should be quiet.

My condo has a policy that says if I can hear in the hall after 10pm, then it's noise disturbance, regardless whether you can hear it in another the condo unit. They would get fined, so *most* people do respect this.

this is very true. when i was working for the gov't last winter, i was getting ready for work. well of course i have to listen to music at louder than normal volume levels. and yes, i too have z560s. they were going plus 2 floor standing cerwin vegas. security came knocking at my door and said the guy downstairs was complaining that the bass was drilling into his ceiling. that was at 10:00pm.

i wouldn't do it at higher volume levels. normal i would say fine.

i wouldn't try it either unless you are in a room that is isolated from the partition between you and your neighbour.
i would think you are most likely to have your neighbour hear and 'feel' your bass in a townhome.

My neighbour plays the trumpet and it makes me want to throw them off the balcony.

^ that's what happening in ma case
coz ma condo is 1 room + 1 den

the den is right by the front door. so anything i play, you can hear it in the hallway. but yet still no complain what so ever.. maybe they like the musik i play!! hahaha

Guess it all depends on the neighbour's tolerance too as well as how reasonable you are with your times for loud music, the type of music you play etc.

There are some people who have low tolerance and will find a problem with just about anything and welcome the opportunity to nag someone, while others may be more layed back and accomodating once you yourself are reasonable.

Headphones rule in certain circumstances.

Don't be inconsiderate and blast your music.
Get some good headphones and go to town. You are sharing a space, so please be respectful. In my condo, there are quite a few complaints about people blasting music. My floor is very quiet, so I guess I'm lucky. Although, everynight at about 1am I hear someone's radio/tv go on. I think my neighbour is an insomniac or gets home late from work. It's not LOUD by any means, but it certainly is noticeable.

The only complaint I had was a number of months ago when the next door neighbour went on vacation, but forgot to turn off his LOUD alarm clock. Every morning at 5:30 am I was awakened by the same Indian song (played back on loop) blaring for over an hour and a half!!! Obviously, there was no one there to turn it off. I took it the first day, then I just couldn't take it no more. I called Management to go in, and turn off the stupid alarm clock! Talk about Noise Torture.

but what if the neighbour above you keep on running a chair or something across the floor? i can hear this well.

could it be someone else other than the neighbour upstairs since as someone said, sound travels wierd and well in concrete?

if it is the neighbour upstairs, and i've requested them to stop this with no success, what else can i do?

Rules are all in the condo documents. It's your choice to follow them or not. If you get too many complaints, you may have to suffer the consequences as well.

Even if you own the condo, the condo board can remove you from the property forcing you to sell.

That only happens in dire circumstances as a last resort... so you're fine for now. Just respect the noise lvl in the early morning and the late evening.
