I just purchased a Dlink wired router. I was previously using two network cards in one computer (one for the internet and one to connect to the 2nd computer). I installed the router and both computers can now access the internet without the main computer being turned on (like I had to previously). However now i cannot access the file sharing and printing off both computers. They don't appear when i click on "my network places".
Can anyone help me out?
EDIT: I think I figured it out, for some reason Shaw Secure was blocking the file sharing, even though it wasn't before.

A couple of things to check.
1. Do both machines have IP configs?
2. Can you ping each machine?
3. Can you access each machine by using the \\ path in start-run, eg. \\computername or \\ipaddress
Network places is populated by the masterbrowser. Sometimes in a new network, you nede to give this about 12 minutes to actually populate.
Are both machines in the same workgroup?

Make sure they are on the same WORKGROUP ... and then go into Network Places -> My Entire Network ...

Probably do some reading at microsoft.com will help ya...
recommendations...
- turn off simple file sharing (I HATE HATE HATE THIS!)
- same workgroup
- ping devices
- log onto router to make sure each device is get and ip address via dhcp
- beware of firewalls... make sure the rules allow the nodes to talk.
