I believe some people were looking for these, so I thought I'd post it.
The 21" Trinitrons are now in stock again, 64 available last time I checked. $329 plus shipping/tax (unless there's some promotion I don't know about).
Dammit, and I just bought my 19"... hmmm, do I want a 21" monitor? hmmm...

How is the quality on these monitors? They're returned from leases right? Which means they've been used for how long? 1 year? 2 years?
Can anyone who has one please give a review of how good their monitor is working right now? Thanks!
I'm interested in getting the 21" one..

I got 2 x 21" about 10 months ago. They are both working great. I've had no problems with them at all. Great deal. Having dual 21" monitors is great. The colours are sharp and clear. And if you're wondering, they are cosmetically flawless.

I am so tempted to get this instead of a Viewsonic a90f+ for my new computer. I am just worried that it is too big!

I got my 21" monitor a year and a half ago. The first one they shipped me had a cracked screen, so I sent it back and got a new one pretty easily. This monitor has been awesome for me, up until 2 weeks ago, when i came home and the screen was all of a sudden distorted and blurry in places .. hard to explain.. here is a pic of the right edge of the screen (by the way, if you know whats wrong with it, let me know :) )

The p1110's are close to 3 years old now.
Monitor tubes like these can be left on for 2 years 24/7 before it dies. You know the person leasing it wont take care of it, so think very hard about this before making a purchase. Some of the items being leased were in fact RMA'd items that customers didnt want due to problems.
You pay 40-50% of the retail price, but get perhaps half the lifespan of the monitor.
I would love to be in Dell's shoes for this deal: lease the monitor for several years for a nice profit, and when the accounting dept. is telling you based on past experience the monitor is close to dying, sell it off to people like us for 60-70% of the price they paid.
heh this is probably a major profit center for Dell.

i've always wanted a 21" but with the advent of lcd screens i now want both a 21" crt and a 21" lcd why it arrives [i know there are 18" lcd but clarity cannot match crt monitors]. $380 is amazing no matter how you look at it is a good deal, even cheaper than a tv.

At work we have a number of 19", 20", and 21" monitors that are at least 3 years old and are still working fine. They are on 24/7 all year long and never turned off. The picture on most of them is still good. I find what you are saying about 2 years hard to believe.

Hey wasn't there a deal that dfsdirect registered members got a few weeks ago for no tax also? I'm at work right now so I can't check... but I'm thinking of picking up a 21"

I find it hard to believe as well, I bought 8 off lease p1110's about 15 months ago, all of them are being heavily used (over 10hrs a day) and there hasn't been a single problem with any of them..

"it is estimated that a CRT monitor has a typical lifespan of 10 – 20,000 hours"
http://www.filmandvideo.com/New%20Pages/article4.html
huh, whaddya know, he's right. (edit: the estimated, that is. real life examples not withstanding. ;))
though, I gotta say, my P991 has been doing great. So impressed I got such a great monitor for such a low price. But I guess we'll see how it's doing a year from now.
I'd say the number of people who get bad monitors (i.e. don't last too long) is low enough to make the risk worth it. If you can get close to two good years out of the monitor, then it's worth the price you paid.

We have 50-60 of these monitors at work and the image on them are very good. However, after seeing the things that goes on with some of our workstations, I would NOT buy any lease return products unless I can actually inspect before hand. I'm not saying we go out of the way to damage the equipment, but I'd say 90-95% has some comestic damages on the case and about 70% have some scratches groves on the screens. At least in my work location.

Yes, the number of hours is roughly two years, but that is if the monitor is in use, not standby mode. Even if your computer is on 24/7, the monitor usage is probably around 12-14 hours per day, which is somewhere around 4-5 years.
I bought a 17" trinitron in March of last year. I paid $129 for it. It was manufactured in December, 1999. That makes it 3.5 years old now. I have already had it for one year and expect to get one more year out of it at least. That means I got a monitor that I used for 2-3 years for $129. I don't think you can beat that anywhere. A new monitor that is the same quality is $300 or more.

For what it's worth, this is DFS Direct's reply to an email asking about the condition of these monitors:
-------------------------------------
Hi Wasif,
These units are refurbished, cleaned, tested grade A quality and are
guaranteed working. They also come with a 6 month warranty.
We do not test for remaining tube life or audit for age of the monitors.
Thank you for your inquiry.

Subject: "Off-lease" monitors
Hi there,
Are "off-lease" monitors refurbished or serviced at
all? Can they be expected to perform as well as brand
new monitors in terms of text sharpness, colour
saturation etc. or is some degree of deterioration to
be expected? Also, since these monitors have most
likely been used in corporate environments, they were
probably never turned off..does DFS Direct ever check
the remaining tube life?
Thanks,
Wasif Azim.

Where I work we have some burn-in issues with recycled monitors from other depts. Usually the one smack in the middle of the screen where the login dialog box fits, and for the task bar.
Myself, the screen saver is a black screen and I turn off the monitor when I leave.

DFSdirect is pretty good... I'm pretty sure when the say off-lease they mean off-lease, a few years ago when they had a few hundred of the D1626HT (the 21 inch before the P1110) Some of them still had the Nortel stickers on them...
Big corporates do the lease to save taxes, its nice because sometimes you get stuff that is hardly used.
BTW, out of about a dozen monitors (some several years old) only one has blown up on me so far, and that was immediately replaced by DFS no questions asked.

For the love of god, quit dragging up a thread 2 years old.
It's a total waste of time seeing this thread every 3rd week because you want to talk about a burnin for a monitor. Dump your crap in the hardware forum please.

You guys should check this place out
http://www.marketworks.com/storefrontprofiles/deluxeSFshop.aspx?sfid=45235&c=453534
They have the same monitor for only 139.99 and you get can extended warranty if you want for 3 years. I think they price here is better than over there.

Ahaha, I just noticed the date...
Some people don't want to start a new thread because its basically an extension of a continuing deal, updated at todays prices and new stuff.. Nothing wrong with that IMO, especially off-lease or refurbs as people want to get an idea of RFD'ers experiences.
21 inchers are gone, only the P991 P922 19 inchers left, pretty good price if the free shipping still applies.

I got the exact same monitor 3 years ago from the same place. But at that time, the 21" were $300, and not $329.
It's a great monitor, but at this day of age. I wouldn't spend more than 100 to 150 for this monitor.

For people in Ottawa, check this place http://www.refurbcomputers.ca/
You get the 1130 for 189$. You can see it before you buy and choose which one you want.
I can't remember the exact terms of the warranty but I think they come with 30 days and you can buy an extra warranty.

I bought a P1110 from DFSDirect a few years ago... still going strong, except for the occasional flicker or two... don't know how long till it dies, but I won't feel cheated when it does happen... and might very well consider getting another one...

$329 is a huge price to pay for a used CRT.
I have a P1110 that I used for over a year. It's a great monitor, but I got it on ebay for $129.
$329 is just way too much.

I have seen these monitors for 150$ at some place a Ville Saint-Laurent (ADM or something like that). You can test the monitor before purchasing.
