Well, well, well — Sony is officially rebirthing the WALKMAN in this device, which’ll be rolling out in Q4 in sizes of 6GB (NW-A1000) and 20GB (NW-A3000). It features an organic EL display that makes the readout appear fairly seamless with the rest of the player. On the software side it’s got a bunch of bells and whistles to help automagically DJ for you: ‘My Favorite Shuffle’ will randomly play the 100 most listened to songs, ‘Time Machine Shuffle’ picks a year at random and plays all the songs from that timeframe, and other functions are available to search and play songs by a number of parameters such as rating, genre, artist, recently transferred, etc. The 20GB version will be available in violet and silver, with the 6GB coming in pink and blue, and all with matching headphones. As far as codec support goes, don’t expect anything revolutionary — just MP3 and of course, ever-lovin’ ATRAC3plus. Still and all, we must profess excitement at the prospect of this thing.

I've seen this in the stores - looks okay but I still think iPod wins in the looks department. OLED is good though, should give better battery life.

I agree with most of the statements people already made, it's too late and not too revolutionary enough to make people go "whoa!". When the first few mp3 players came out, I was amazed by it's size, and when the iPod came out I was amazed by it's design and features, and now when I see this new Sony thing I just think okay, another mp 3 player.

Sony makes some nice stuff, but my biggest problem with them is that they are a content provider. So they are always going to favor DRM over ease of use. Also, a bit overpriced.
That display does look pretty cool though.

That's cool - don't forget your passport, they might have duty free (save yourself 5% on top). Where is this place anyways?

it's very slick looking but probably 3 years too late into the game.

at least its a better attempt than the dell ditty.
sony's shuffle killers are really nice but way over priced.
maybe these will catch on but i think they should have went with a more mature look. these look too teen-ish.
I'm personally going to wait for a super-multifunction-phone-video/music player-printer-scanner-pocket pc-toaster oven-combo device... these music only players are last generation concepts... video is this gen... only a matter of time before they make one of :arrowu: these babies!

lol, agreed. although, if you've got the money there are plm pc's and pocket pc's that'll pretty much do it all except the printing, scanning, and toaster oven part
