How cheap can a decent curling iron go? And how damaging is it really?
Any alternative methods to curling hair?

If you get a ceramic curling iron and use protective spray on your hair then it should minimize any damage (ceramic appliances are suppose to be better for your hair). Higher end appliances will have a temperature control switch. The damage also depends on how often your curl your hair and the condition of your hair.
