Running shoe recommendation

Any runners here? I have been training for a 10k and
have in fact finished a 10k at the Terry Fox run. I
found that my $30 Brooks running shoes is not cutting
it. I have been looking for a decent pair of running shoes.

Any recommendations on what to get and where to get
the best deals?

I went to sportchek yesterday and the Asic that I tried on
was amazing. Bloodly expensive at $160 though.

There have been numerous threads on the right running shoe in the sports section a while back.

If you're going to run, the shoes aren't the place for you to save money. This is your most important piece of equipment. What one person suggests is a good shoe is likely irrelevant information for you.

You should expect to spend anywhere between $110 and $170 for shoes.

As a runner, here's my advice:

Go to a runners specialty store, like The Running Room or Time 2 Run. Don't go to a general sports store at all where the staff may not be familiar with issues specific for runners, but may have a more generalized knowledge.

The staff at a running store should provide you with an opportunity to do a little light running in the store so they can check out your gait. In addition, the kind of shoe also depends on the kind of running you do or intend to do.

The right shoe will save you from any number of painful injuries that will sideline you for sometimes months at a time.

Asics, but get properly fitted for the right type of shoe. I love my Gel Kayanos, but they're pushing $200.

You need to find a shoe that works for you personally. I started running in New Balance shoes 6 years ago, and always go back to that brand. It's a comfort thing. Expect to pay $100+

As said, the Running Room is a specialty store: they should give better advice than 'sports fashion' stores.
Since you're in Ottawa, try Sports4 (Bank Street, Kanata, or their New Balance store near Algonquin College), or Bushtukah (Richmond Rd). You're more likely to find deals there than at the Running Room. 'Deals' meaning discontinued quality shoes, not low-end WYGIWYPF sneakers.

Definately go to the Running Room. The brand of shoe doesn't matter. Get the shoe that fits your foot. They will help you out!

Sporting Life is also a good option and it's right beside the running room (the Yonge location anyway).

Note also that you can join the Running Room club to practice running various distances and then you get a discount on store merchandise.
